    (1) Mostly it is a byproduct of that typical Indian disease; a failure to plan ahead. Intially the V5 order was for just 80 units and then expanded again and again in batches.

    (2) If the GoI had gone for an order of >200 units from the outset they would surely have pushed for a local production line but this peicemeal ordering process (typical of the way India purchases mil equipment) failed to leverage large demand into large benefits for India.

But since it is an essential part of the CSD, we can still get them under MII? I mean we need a huge copter sqdn for the efficent functioning of CSD right?

The IAF's requirement for V5s (replacing the legacy Mi-8s/17s on a 1:1 basis) is almost filled so there is little scope for many more V5 orders worth commiting a MII line for

    .

+ if you ask me bro, I'll say as far as CSD goes there is a SEPERATE requirement by the ARMY for medium class helos of their own (around 150 units). This, IMO, won't be met by further V5 orders, there are two options (IMO) to fill this requirement both of which will be made in India

Are you talking about Dhruv? But its payload and personal carrying capacity is very low compared to V5.

Nope, not the ALH at all. The medium class I refer to is 10-13 ton range, the ALH is 5.5 tons ( heavy light class). The IA has an outstanding requirement for 150 (+) medium class helos

It will either be HAL's IMRH or the EC-725 (H225M). Either way, made in India.

HAL's IMRH tender was cancelled in 2009 and no fresh tender yet to be issued and no news about EC 725 too.. That means we will have to wait minimum 2020 for either one them..

IMRH is being worked on internally by HAL and will likely be given official GoI clearance in the next 2-3 years. Airbus Military is actively pitching the EC-725 to meet the IA's requirements as we speak. You are right though, we are easily looking post 2020 to make this a reality.
