What is the purpose of this thread? To defame Satya Sai or his trust or to defame the people who donated in his trust? Hindu temples and trusts were known to hold gold and wealth since eternity, why did Mahmoud of Ghazni raid the Somnath temple 17 times? Every invader during ancient and medieval times set their sights at the riches the Temples held. Gold is an Indian obsession, no wonder Satya Sai transferred much of his trust's wealth into gold.

I am no fan of Satya Sai but what is the purpose of trying to find a mountain out of molehill after Sai's death? There are Satya Sai's and then there are Vivekanands. Its your choice whom you want to follow.

I can take countless examples of Islamic, Christian and even Budhhist monks who possessed such wealth. Better read about Rodrigo Borgia, the scandalous Pope. There is no dearth of such examples all over the world.

This thread is sensationalizing a non-issue.

Maybe you are right. There is no difference between Saibaba (alleged to be a Sannyasi) and an ordinary house-wife. Both have a great fascination for the "yellow metal"; aka GOLD!

LOL use them to run the Sathya Sai mission schools and hospitals as they have done till now.

I think you don't have an iota of the amount of service rendered by th Sathya Sai missions - their colleges, schools, hospitals or else you wuld not be speaking this like.

Well some people cant get past stereotypes.

    Whitefield ashram reveals more treasure

The treasure unearthed on Wednesday after an inventory in the living quarters of the late Sathya Sai Baba at his Whitefield ashram, 25 km from here, did not quite match the riches found at his Puttaparthi ashram in Andhra Pradesh.

Yet, the five trustees who had come in to complete the job took nearly six hours to take stock of the jewellery and cash inside four cupboards and a storeroom adjoining his living quarters at the ashram.

Shortly after 3.30 p.m. when an employee of the Sathya Sai Central Trust emerged from the inner chambers with a nondescript metal box and a briefcase, an official spokesperson announced that 6.09 kg of gold, 245.368 kg of silver and Rs. 80,50,500 in cash were found. The total worth of the gold and silver, at the current bullion rates, is estimated to be nearly Rs. 3 crore. The treasure discovered at the Puttaparthi ashram was estimated at around Rs. 37 crore.

Escorted by Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East Division) P.C. Harsha, the employee got into a car and was driven to the Kadugodi branch of Canara Bank, which is right next to the ashram. It was later learnt that the briefcase contained the cash and the metal box contained the gold. According to Trust spokesperson Anantharaman, a decision on what to do with the silver will be taken later. He also said that the tax on the items would be paid without fail.

Bangalore (Urban) Deputy Commissioner M.K. Aiyappa, who represented the State government as an observer during the stock-taking process, said the gold was mostly in the form of jewellery and coins. Silver, he said, was in the form of cutlery and idols.

As in the Puttaparthi ashram, the valuables were packed in plastic covers and in jewellery boxes. Some of the items were also labelled and had the names of the donors and the dates of donation on them.

This money doesnot belong to them............they are only shredding a percent of money donated by the belivers......why a baba requires 40000 crores whwn there is millions of people suffering.............

I think india government should not give any tax exemptions to any religious organisation or sociial organisation..........

The money is not obtained by the Baba through corruption. Its the offering given to him by his devotees/supporters.

And he spends it on the welfare of the people. Whats wrong in this ?
