Maybe not a Pirelli-owned production facility, but probably CEAT making & distributing Pirelli tires in India. All Pirellis in India are sold through CEAT dealerships. It isn't mentioned anywhere that CEAT makes Pirelli tires but I don't see how they can remain economically competent in the market if they have to import everything from abroad.

No doubt, it's a very good company with quality products.

    It's the Bofors jinn:achmed:.
    :hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

We have messed up our artillery again.Expect more delay(possibly years).Dhanush was the closest to mass induction. We will be more dependant on Koreans and Americans for our artillery modernization than ourself.
ATAGS going to be delayed too.

The only possible thing that could salvage whole situation is a statement from DRDO saying that defective OFB made ammunition is to be blamed.

    Indian Bofors misfires during trials
    Shishir Arya | TNN | Updated: May 27, 2017, 01.41 PM IST

NAGPUR: Last week, the first two units of the ultralight 155x39 mm howitzers were delivered to India from the US. It was 30 years after the Swedish Bofors guns were bought that India had acquired new guns of the same calibre. Around the same time, the indigenous version of the howitzers took a set back.

In the second such incident, one of the Indian guns was damaged due to an accident during test fires. Nearly a fortnight ago, as battery trials of Dhanush — the Indian gun were under way at Pokhran — the shell burst soon after ejection from the barrel, said sources.

They say this has damaged the muzzle brake, the part at the front of the barrel. Its function is to absorb recoil created during firing of shells. The howitzers are being made at the Gun Carriage Factory (GCF), Jabalpur. Around 12 pieces have already been made.

This incident has pushed the process back by a month. It happens when the GCF was in the last stage of trials. The firing was part of user exploitation, which was conducted for the first time for any weapon system.

Usually, once a system is cleared through user-trials, it is inducted. "For Dhanush, user exploitation was included after user trials were over," said the sources. This means the army wanted to further use guns to get accustomed to it. Any changes required were also supposed to be suggested.

Prior to this, in 2013, when summer trials were under way at Pokhran, one of the gun was damaged as the shell burst within the barrel. Following an inquiry it was concluded that there was a fault in the ammunition which led to a premature blast and no change was needed in the gun's design. The earlier accident delayed the project by over a year.

"This time the damage was not much, except for the impact on the muzzle brake," said in the know of the development.

"A court of inquiry has been instituted into the matter after which the reasons will be ascertained. However, this has delayed the process by one more month, otherwise all the stages of trials were over. It was for the first time a batter trial was held in which six guns are fired at a time. The problem occurred in one of the guns," said the source.

The next battery trials are planned to be held in June at Pokhran. Though the reports have not been finalized, sources said it is expected that there was a malfunction in ammunition due to which the shell did not travel the entire range.

Now the entire gun will have to be stripped to see if there is any further damage. After this, fresh trials will be conducted.

    IN A NUTSHELL

    * The project to make Indian 155mm howitzers started in 2011

    * Named Dhanush, it has a higher calibre of 155x45mm as compared to original Bofors which is 155x39mm

    * Had cleared all tests and was undergoing user exploitation

    * The concept of user exploitation was introduced for first time for Dhanush

    * Under this, test fires were conducted to get accustomed to the system

    * Earlier test-fires under user trial which are otherwise conclusive are over

    * Misfire of shell has delayed the process

    * Earlier a barrel burst had occurred during trials of 2013

Made In India Dhanush Howitzer Fails Last Phase of Tests
Friday, July 21, 2017 by Indiandefense News

The guns are being manufactured at Gun Carriage Factory at Jabalpur

    NAGPUR:
The indigenously built Dhanush - the 155mm artillery guns developed on the lines of the famed Bofors howitzers - has failed yet again after reaching the last phase of tests.
In a test fire undertaken last week, a shell hit the muzzle brake, a source privy to the development said. The muzzle brake is the component fitted on the top of the barrel. It helps in reducing the recoil created when a shell is fired.
Sources said the gun had faced a similar issue in the test fires carried out in May this year.

Shell hitting muzzle break is not a big issue and it can also happen due to the problems with the shell itself.

Fake Chinese spares for indigenised Bofors guns: CBI FIR
Press Trust of India, New Delhi, Jul 21 2017, 19:28 IST

China-made parts camouflaged as 'Made in Germany' found their way to the production line of indigenised Bofors guns used by the army, prompting the CBI to file a case against a Delhi-based company.

Besides Sidh Sales Syndicate, the CBI also registered a case against unidentified officials of the Guns Carriage Factory (GCF), Jabalpur, under criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery for supplying fake and cheap China-made spares passing off as Made in Germany for Dhanush guns, the FIR alleged.

Dhanush is the indigenised version of the Bofors artillery guns which performed exceedingly well during the Kargil conflict in 1999.

The CBI alleged that the supplier entered into criminal conspiracy with the unidentified GCF officials to supply duplicate spare parts (bearings) used in the manufacture of Dhanush guns.

"In furtherance of the said criminal conspiracy, unknown officials of GCF accepted the Chinese manufactured 'Wire Race Roller Bearings' supplied by Sidh Sales Syndicate which were embossed as 'CRB-Made in Germany'," the CBI said in the FIR.

The agency said production and performance of the Dhanush gun is extremely crucial for India's defence preparedness and "wire race roller bearing" is its vital component.

A tender was floated for the procurement of four such bearings according to the Rothe Erde drawing for 155 mm gun in which four firms had participated. The order was given to Sidh Sales Syndicate at the value of Rs 35.38 lakh in 2013, the FIR stated.

The order was further increased to six bearings at the cost of Rs 53.07 lakh on August 27, 2014.

The company supplied two bearings each on three occasions between April 7, 2014 and August 12, 2014.

The company submitted 'certificates in origin' showing the bearings were procured from CRB Antriebstechnik, Germany. They were also embossed with the label, CRB-Made in Germany.

GCF tests showed that the bearings were unacceptable due to deviations in dimensions. The company provided clarifications and assured that in case of non performance of the bearing due to manufacturing defects, they would replace the bearing free of cost and take corrective action for future supply.

"Consequently the bearings were accepted as a special case by unknown officials of GCF Jabalpur," the CBI alleged. Information received by the CBI shows that the German company does not manufacture these parts.

It showed that Sidh Sales Syndicate got the six bearings manufactured by Sino United Industries (Luyang) Ltd Henan, China.

The agency also seized several emails which were exchanged between China and Sidh Sales Syndicate. The letter from Germany shown by the company was also on forged letterhead, CBI alleged.

The certificate of origin from Germany was also forged. "The said forged letter and certificate were accepted by unidentified officials of GCF with ulterior motive and by abusing their official positions as such without ascertaining the genuineness of the said letter and certiciates and cause undue advantage to Sidh Sales Syndicate and corresponding loss to the Government of India," the investigating agency said in the FIR.

    DRDO, CVRDE all in soup.

Hope HAL is not spared and apart from jail sentences a few HAL executives are executed.

As expected. These morons cannot upgrade T-72 or do basic assembly of T-90 but claim Arjun to be a Main Battle Tank.
