Authorities in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir today detained over 20 drivers and their trucks carrying goods from this side to demand release of their truck and driver detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police for carrying narcotics worth Rs 100 crore.

The incident comes a day after the truck coming from PoK as part of the cross-LoC trade was detained at Salamabad trade facilitation centre in Uri following recovery of around 100 kg brown sugar hidden in it.

"The PoK authorities have detained more than 20 trucks and the drivers demanding the release of the driver and the vehicle from that side which was used for smuggling drugs," Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla G A Khwaja told PTI.

He said the law of the land will take its course in respect of the driver and the vehicle detained in connection with the recovery of brown sugar.

"We will convey to the authorities on the other side not to press with their demand as the law will have to be followed. An illegal act has taken place," he added.

As many as 114 packets of brown sugar were recovered from the truck from PoK. The total weight of the seized contraband was around 100 kgs which is worth nearly Rs 100 crore in the international market.

The challan of the vehicle had mentioned almonds as the goods being imported from PoK.

This was the second incident of its type since the beginning of the cross-LoC trade between the divided parts of Kashmir in 2008.

In August last year, police recovered cocaine worth Rs 10 crore from a truck plying on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route, at Sheeri in Uri sector.

BANNU: At least 20 security personnel were martyred and 30 others injured in a car bomb blast targeting military convoy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu town, SAMAA reported Sunday.

Officials said the blast took place in Bannu’s cantonment area near Razmak Gate when soldiers and officers were gathering and their convoy comprising 25 to 30 vehicles was about to leave for Miranshah.

According to initial reports, 20 security troops, including army, Frontier Constabulary (FC) and paramilitary soldiers, were martyred whereas 30 others were injured. They were rushed to CMH Bannu and later Peshawar.

Massive rescue and relief operations were underway following the blast. Sources say the death toll may raise as the blast was so powerful that it was heard in far off localities.

Confirming nature of the blast, sources said an explosive-laden vehicle blew up near the convoy. It was a civilian vehicle hired by the army personnel for transportation of the army men to North Waziristan’s Miranshah town where a military operation is underway and curfew has been imposed.

Officials said army’s convoy is dispatched to Miranshah every week to take part in the offensive, adding that civilian vehicles are hired for transportation purpose.

The cantonment area was completely cordoned off as media and civilian persons were not allowed in. Troops were being mobilized for a search operation in the area.

27 Indian trucks held in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in fresh stand-off

Narcotic drugs worth Rs. 100 crore, seized from a truck which was coming from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir

Authorities in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) have detained 27 trucks carrying goods from India to demand the release of their truck and driver detained by the Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly carrying narcotics worth Rs. 100 crore.

The incident took place on Friday night following the detention of a truck from PoK - as part of the cross-border trade - from which 100 kg brown sugar was seized at the Salamabad trade facilitation centre in Uri in J&K's Baramulla district. The vehicle is part of 47 trucks that have been held up at the centre.

"The PoK authorities have detained more than 20 trucks and their drivers, demanding the release of the driver and the vehicle from that side which was used for smuggling drugs," Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla GA Khwaja told PTI.

Officials claim that they allowed 46 trucks to return but Pakistani authorities refused to take them back until the seized truck, allegedly carrying narcotics, was also allowed to go. They said talks between the two sides were on to resolve the issue.

As many as 114 packets of brown sugar were recovered from the truck from PoK. The total weight of the seized contraband was around 100 kgs which is worth nearly Rs. 100 crore in the international market, Govind Ratan, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Uri, said.

The challan of the vehicle had mentioned almonds as the goods being imported from PoK, he had said.

This was the second such incident since trade began in 2008 across the Line of Control.

In August last year, police recovered cocaine worth Rs. 10 crore from a truck plying on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route, at Sheeri in Uri sector.

20 Pak soldiers killed in attack on army convoy

At least 20 Pakistani soldiers were killed on Sunday when an explosion hit an army convoy in the northwestern region of Bannu, intelligence and military sources said. At least two dozen others were wounded in the attack in a town near North Waziristan, a lawless Pakistani region on the
Afghan border where many militant groups are holed up in remote mountain camps.

"It's not clear if it was a suicide attack or an improvised explosive device," said one military official, adding that the soldiers had been travelling in a civilian vehicle hired to carry them to Razmak in North Waziristan.

The assault follows a threat by the Pakistani Taliban to step up attacks on security forces after the group elected a new leader, Mullah Fazlullah, at the end of last year.

Another police officer said the blast took place as a convoy of army troops and paramilitary Frontier Corps was preparing to leave Bannu, adding that security forces had cordoned off the area to investigate.

"We fear that dozens were killed and injured," said an intelligence source. "It is not yet clear what caused the blast... A large number of soldiers were there."

I already told you nothing good can happen as long as UPA is in power.

10 years of shit rule doesn't go off without nothing...in the few months left before elections, we will
be getting shock after shock. Don't even be surprised if UPA decides to hand over Kashmir to Pak and
Arunachal to China before 2014 elections. This can even happen 1 day before election.
