5,000 Pinaka rockets to be produced every year

Nagpur: The Ordnance Factory Ambajhari (OFAJ) near here is all set to enhance its manufacturing capacity of Pinaka rockets from the present 1,000 rockets to 5,000 every year for the Indian Army, sources said.

"Pinaka rocket is one of the major projects (of the OFAJ). The multiple rocket launcher has successfully been indigenised and production of Pinaka rocket is in association with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)," official sources said.

"Pinaka rocket is operable at extreme conditions of temperature ranging from -10 degree centigrade to 55 degree centigrade. These rockets, with a payload of 100 kgs, have a striking range of 40 kms and can bring devastation around 500 ms of surrounding areas of the target. It has already been tested and inducted into the arsenal of the Indian Army. It is a mammoth project of the Ambajhari Ordnance Factory," they said.

    That's huge :artillery:

Something's fishy here, 5000 rockets for only 80-100 launchers per year? Now either there are more orders for Pinaka Launchers for IA, or we have some confirmed international orders.

India has a border length of 7700 Kms surrounded by land
80-100 Launchers are not enough, we will a 1000+ of these Pinakas.

    Preparing for that i suppose

The other 7500+ Kms is the sea of course

I don't think we have any kind of foreign orders. Its just for our own right now.
The possible nations that might order Pinaka are Vietnam, few S.American nations like Ecuador,Brazil and few African nations.

We already have Smerch MBRLs.We need Pinaka for the purpose of number-building.
Considering we have 100 Pinakas which can launch 12 each =1200 rockets.
If we are producing 5000 Rockets per year, that means we need at least 400 new Pinaka Launchers every year.

these enhanced capacity is required for indegenous orders only.

Each regiment of pinaka consists of three batteries of six Pinakas each. each pinaka has 12 launchers. so each battery has 72 rockets at its disposal which can be fired inside 44 seconds.

now consider the fact that each battery carriers adequate stock of rockets during eace time ops. the no. of rockets
the reserve stock is supposed to last for a period of minimum 2-3 weeks.

apart from the reserve stock available at individual regiments, the reserve stock is maintained at army ordanance depots. which generally hold months of reserve to be despatched to individual regiments on requirments bases.

plus there is plan to significantly raise no. of regiments. so wen u take this into account the figure of 5000 makes perfect sense.
