Another election promise fullfilled ,now people will argue that he is putting a limit on things .but it is for good ...

    1:no lalbatti Cars for ministers
    2:no bunglows for ministers
3:no funds for ministers (will be given directly to the people in gram sabhas )
4:667 liters of water free .which will encourage people to use water efficently .
5:400 units permonth is hugh many small familys in delhi will benefit from this
6:CAG Audit for electrical company is on the way

some people might argue that this will burden the treasury but the truth is it wont .
by curbing unneccesary spending this cost can be recovered ...
Bjp has been in power in many states for over a month now .how many promises did they fulfill ?>

although i am still rooting for BJP to come to power in Center ,i just hope AAP and BJP can work together rather then against eachother

i personally think that this is not the way forward.such doles are always detrimental as a whole and if continued no money will be left for any rel development.

its impossible to reduce electricity rates without subsidy

AAP's New Year gift to Delhiites - electricity charges slashed by 50% in lower slabs

    Zee Media Bureau/Ritesh K Srivastava

New Delhi: After fulfilling his party's promise of providing free supply of 700 litres of water everyday for Delhi households, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday gave Delhiites a perfect new year gift by slashing electricity charges and promising further revision.

The Chief Minister made the big announcement following the meeting of his cabinet this evening in which it was decided that electricity rates in the lower slabs will be slashed by 50%.

“Those who consume 0 to 200 units or 201 to 400 units of electricity, their rates will be halved. 50 percent subsidy on power tariff “will be given to those households who consume up to 400 units per month,†Kejriwal said.

The Chief Minister further told reporters that the subsidy will apply to those consuming power below 400 units, subsidy rates will help nearly 28 lakh consumers in Delhi.

'We will work to the best of our abilities till we are in power,' Chief Minister said adding, “The electricity rates will be revised further once the audit of power distribution companies is over.â€

When quizzed how the AAP government will imlent this decision, Kejriwal said, “Subsidy will cost Rs 200 crore but only 61 crore will be used.â€

Kejriwal earlier met the Comptroller and Auditor General Shashi Kant Sharma and sought the audit of three major power distribution companies in Delhi.

Chief Minister also gave time till Wednesday morning to the three major power distribution companies to file their replies in this regard.

Defying doctor's advice, an unwell Chief Minister went to meet the CAGto discuss the issue before going into a cabinet meeting.

Ahead of that Kejriwal told reporters, “Delhi government is of the view that audit of these companies can be done. But under the provisions of law the three companies were being given the opportunity of being heard on the government audit of their finances.â€

"They are being given time till tomorrow morning by which they will have to give their representations. The cabinet will meet in the evening," he told reporters before leaving for his meeting with the CAG.

Following his meeting with the CAG, Kejriwal told newsmen that the latter is willing to audit power distribution companies in Delhi.

“We have given notice to power companies for audit,†the Chief Minister said, adding, “Power companies have been asked to send their reply on why there shouldn't be an audit by tomorrow.â€

At the cabinet meeting today, the issue of revising the power tariff is likely to be discussed. The Chief Minister said that in today's cabinet meeting, they would discuss issues relating to unauthorised colonies.

Ahead of his meeting, the ailing Chief Minister, who has been advised complete bed rest by the doctors, tweeted, “Going to meet the CAG, to discuss possibility of an audit of the three power companies.â€

“I believe we have 48 hours in hand so doing whatever we can to help people in this period, “ the Chief Minister's tweet said.

After the AAP government delivered on its promise of supplying 700 litres of free water everyday for Delhi households, expectations are running high whether the ruling party would be able to deliver on its promise of reducing the power tariff by 50 percent in the national capital.

Kejriwal on Monday delivered on the AAP's poll promise by announcing 20 kilo litres of free water a month to all metered households. The Congress, however, questioned the move, saying Kejriwal should ensure that every citizen of Delhi gets 700 litres of free water per day.

The government's decision, however, came with a rider that those consuming over this limit will have to pay as per tariff, enhanced by 10 percent, effective January 1.

The promise of 700 litres of free water to every Delhi household was made in the AAP poll manifesto.

Ever since Kejriwal formed AAP, he has been focusing his Delhi campaign on reducing power tariff and free water supply. Experts say that reducing electricity tariffs by 50 percent can only be done only if subsidies are doled out.

“It is unlikely that the utilities can bring down the electricity tariffs by 50 percent without government providing them with cash subsidy,†Debashish Mishra, Senior Director, Deloitte India said.

However, he added that there may be scope for further loss reduction in distribution, demand side management measures and cost optimisation in O&M (Operation & Maintenance).

He said that broadly the tariff is determined by four factors - existing operational efficiencies, capital and cost structures, power purchase agreements, and regulatory (assured and authorised) assets in the sector.

Electricity tariffs were revised in the Capital in July this year. Delhiites pay a minimum of Rs 3.90 per unit tariff.

AAP has said that it would seek complete statehood for Delhi, special audit of all electricity companies, regularisation of unauthorised colonies, stopping donations in private schools and improving working conditions of contract labour and lowly paid employees.

This is very good, people will now focus on consuming less electricity, and resort to power saving measures. The rich can afford power at current rates, and the power rates in India are dirt cheap compared to countries with similar resources. If some one buys huge power hungry appliances they should have the balls to foot the power bill.

They will not subsidize the rates, the electricity act doesn't have such provisions the focus will now shift to improvement of T&C losses that amount to 17 % of total losses, that can be easily reduced to 2 to 3 %.

Delhi is not a poor state ..2nd there is a lot of spending ... rather then giving free laptops i like people getting free water and less electricity bills ...
u have to see the gov spends money on lot of things which are not required ... like for example to build a road they pay contractors 100s of crores but they build shitty roads which are filled with potholes .and then Gov needs to pay again to repair .them this is Gov waste ... if such waste can be avoided by provinding contracts to honest contractors and making them accountable ...then gov can save money
and u have to see that this will directly benefit the people .. no middle man here
for the first time the comman man will enjoy some benefits ....

india rising and shining and shit slogans make no difference to the poor and needy ..atleast these schemes will benefit those people

once the Audit is done u will see the electric companys have to play Fair ...the problem is most politcians and corporates will lead u to beleave that gov doesnt have money ... but that is a lie ... when there was a Drought in karnataka all thier minister went a study tour to brazil ...and later on we came to know they were partying on public money ... it was all over the news ...
but look at these shamefull politicians ... this year again they have planned a trip
but only this time it is a world trip on public money ..which includes JAPAN <CHINA <AUSTRALIA and USA

we need people in the Gov who can stop this loot ...

i wish that may happen but i don't think so.

my problem is that if we have to progress we have to eliminate the subsidies,,otherwise we will have no money for any meaningful development work left.

if kejriwal dosen't reverse hid socialist policies then i may have to think twice before voting for AAP if at all it comes to punjab.we need thousand things more than this brainless subsidy that will serve no purpose but to bankrupt the delhi state

its easy to say that but delhi's prices are probably lowest in country and they cannot just be reduced, yes kejriwal can provide govt subsidy but it will be a debt trap, nothing else

why are u looking at the glass as half empty ??? when it is actually HAlf Full ?

1:667 liters of water free but if u use above it .u have to pay normal rates ? (this will encourage people not to waste water)
2:50%subsidy to homes which use upto 400 units otherwise normal rates for them too (save power)

he is not blindly giving subsidy ..and before water decision was taken the JAlboard director had said they can manage that 667 but not 700 lts ...so there is a rational behind all this ....he is not trying to bankrupt india ...

and do u really think these small schemes will destroy the finances of delhi ??? if there is no curruption then all these cost can be managed .... and finally the comman man will get some benefits

This bill of subsidy of INR 40 crore for water and INR 200 crore for electricity is only till 31st march 2014 i.e for just 90 days bcoz by then, elections will be announced and whatever benefit AAP wanted to take wud have been taken. The reality will hit us hard after the elections as that is when the budget for Delhi will be announced which will have to make provisions for these subsidies.
In any case this money for subsidy is eroding the profit and reserves of delhi govt which are meant for infrastructure development of Delhi.

he also said after the audit is done there might be no need to give subsidy ..right now 50% subsidy will cost the Gov only 200 cr out which 139Cr will be paid by other 2 companys like bses which owes over 4000 crs ,so the gov will only be paying 61crs for this subsidy

the 50%subsidy is provided till the audit is done .. the power companies have to answer for audit till tommorow morning

u will see everything in the coming months.subsidy like this is always bad, always.
the money that could have been used for building roads will go to this.

yes, that clause of paying money if u consume even 1 unit or 1 litre above prescribed limit is good but trust me ppl are gonna consume more and then blame kejriwal for the law when they have to pay.

ppl are too stupid to change, they will pose problems eventually.

btw in case u are thinking i am another modi bhakt and paid troll

    Sardar Speaks

the blog has millions of mistakes but its mine:yes:

if he does that and forces private companies to reduce rates then no one will come to invest in delhi in future just like ppl boycotted west bengal after tatas had to vacate and shift the nano factory from singur to gujrat.

    then what??
