Don't oversimplify and give a cosmetic touch. It was lost because command failure at every level took place. The Government gave the Army Headquarters the indication and assurances that the diplomatic engagement was such that China would not fight, and the army headquarters said the same once Western Command did appreciation of situation in Ladakh inspite of reinforced Division being deployed opposite them.

It was due to the USSR applying pressure on China to not do anything stupid. The situation changed in 1962 due to trade off over support for USSR in Cuban Missile Crisis. China got a free run for a brief time period.

    Couple of thing :)

    1. You cannot move tanks to Dhoklam region. May be Rajasthan but certainly not Dhoklam. So any weakness shown in a Tank competition is inconsequential. If you are practical, you should be knowing this right? Tanks are not the weapons of war fighting in places in Dokhlam due to terrain.

    2. Last time, in 2016, Chinese T-96B also broke down. Quite spectacularly. Does it have any bearing on their far fighting capabilities? Probably not. Same will apply to India.

    3. Ask any army person, malfunctioning of equipment is a routine thing in any deployment. More than often it happens and armies around the world have very elaborate procedures to estalish enough backup and redundencies.

I am not the right one to answer that question. I would rather be concerned why the Indian T-90 broke down rather than asking why the Russian one didn't break down.

Head over to the Arjun thread, read it up and then post. We are bored of digging out a topic, rehashing it, and rediscussing points already done with.

The situation has moved on. Expect Arjun to be the base for the FMBT program. Period. Stop rehashing old sob stories and expect the armed forces to spend next 10 years (yes, it takes 10 years for any weapon system to get inducted) inducting a tank which was not ready when it was required to be ready and is now unlikely to be inducted in a retrospective manner.

I have said earlier, this tank will serve as the base for FMBT program.

Any additional/new information that you have, add there. This is off topic here.

Why can't I move a tank there? What makes you say so?

In fact, in the semi-final of this International Drill, it is the Chinese indigenous Type 96B(second best MBT in China after Type 99A) knocking out the Indian T-90S.

Even the Russians feel shame as T-90S are from Russia.

Try moving tanks from Tibetian pleatue to Dhoklam or moving tanks on the Dhoklam plateau. The topography is simply too mountainous for that.

On the contrary, it is easier to move tanks there than West Sikkim on tracks to provide forward fire support

I did post a photograph along with maps there to give general idea of topography

Yours truly has been there on ground once :)
