NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Less than a month after returning from four years in the shipyard, the Navy says the USS Theodore Roosevelt needs more work.

Naval Air Force Atlantic says the aircraft carrier was being kept at Norfolk Naval Station for repairs to its propulsion system

The USS Roosevelt returned from its mid-life upgrade at Newport News Shipbuilding on Aug. 29 and went out for its sea trial soon afterward.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (Carrier Theodore Roosevelt needs more repairs | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com) that it got underway again on Sept. 11 for various exercises and training.

But upon its return, officials decided to keep it at the pier. The repairs are expected to take about 20 days.

A carrier undergoes the 41-month maintenance project once in its 50-year life. The USS Roosevelt was placed into active service in Oct. 1986.
