    It's high time private players are brought in to the game. India is going to lag behind to a point of no return if this continues.

    So total 8 missiles failed.

    6 messed up in the air and 2 never fired.

    Expect such stuff from Iran/North Korea. Not from India.

    Because what I wrote yesterday on the other thread, there is no funding for capital expenditure. You need air conditioned facilities to store the missiles. Now, when the 'authorisation' of Air Conditioned car is not there for a Colonel, what do you expect? (giving the archaic thinking here, as a Colonel is authorised to travel in AC-1 in train but his vehicle is not authorised an AC and IA spends Rs 20k to remove the fitted AC from a Maruti Gypsy, and the unit spends Rs 20K to install one once the vehicle comes to unit for CO's use :facepalm:)

    I preferred driving in my own car (a Honda City), although it used to get tiring in a big city, as I used to have an AC and had comfort in the hot weather. Whereas, in an army gypsy, it used to be hot and traffic jam would make the ride, a misery.:(

    @Abingdonboy @Gessler

    This is the reason why I have an opposing view to any product of DPSU, especially the rifle that OFB is offering. As an user, I am hard stretched to call INSAS a capable rifle. I prefer the old Vz 58 till date, any day of the week.

    The issues with the Akash have been addressed in the past 2.5 years, it's not a worry anymore. Akash will meet its (limited) role.

    Kinetic in the other thread has done a good job of properly contextulising the matter:

    The CAG report notes 6 of 20 rounds failed (70% success rate) till Nov 2014 at IAF service.

    Thereafter, we had several test fires conducted by the IAF with subsequent production batches.

    http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/India-test-fires-Akash-missiles/article14024701.ece

    These were post induction (2015) user trials. Subsequently, two things happened - IAF asked for 7 more Akash squadrons and production at BDL was enhanced.

    QA from first time suppliers - pvt and public would have been a challenge but it seems to have moved ahead significantly in the past couple of years.

    ----------

    The fact the IAF has placed large follow-on orders says a lot, we all know that there is no power on earth that could force the armed forces of India to buy something they don't want.
