At this point in time, disenthrall yourself from the vicious influence of NDTV and its corrupt journo BARKHA DUTT. NDTV along with Sagrika and Rajdeep Sardesai (CNN-IBN) have started Anti-Anna propaganda for Congress Money. Barkha said only 10,000 people came (Ramlila) that also middle-class and they even don't know JLB. Ridiclous, In reality what i saw, There were some 1.5-2 Laks people. 80% were educated and most of them knew about JLB. She is a B!tch and L!ar. :sniper:

Govt has let us down, Anna is our only hope

In an indication of the kind of effect Anna Hazare has had on the nation, Jai Karan, a sapera in Badarpur, on the Delhi-Haryana border, who can't read or write and is jobless most of the time, tells Shobhan Saxena that the anti-corruption crusader is his only hope. Excerpts:

How do you make a living since you are not allowed to keep snakes or perform with them anymore?

Most men here have formed been and dhol parties, and we perform at weddings and birthdays. We get some work for four-five months during the wedding season. The rest of the year we sit here and wait for work. Our situation is hopeless .

The government doesn't allow you to follow your traditional profession, but has it done anything to help you get alternative jobs?
They have done nothing at all, only promises. Five years back, the Delhi government invited us to perform at Central Park in Connaught Place, and Sheila Dikshit promised to give us jobs. We are still waiting. We have been demanding jobs for our children in zoos and forest departments because we can handle snakes, but no one has bothered to call us.

But the government invites you to perform at cultural events. Doesn't that help?
Rarely. More than 70 saperas were invited to perform at the Commonwealth Games village during the Games. We were paid Rs 200 per person per day. We were supposed to get complete sapera dress but they didn't give us shoes. I think Suresh Kalmadi swallowed that money too. They spent thousands of crores on the Games and gave us Rs 200, making us walk barefoot in front of foreigners .

Have you put your demands for jobs and education in front of the government?
Yes, dozens of times. But nobody listens. We have submitted petitions and raised slogans. No one has done anything yet. They have killed our profession, snatched our snakes and abandoned us. We have no hope from the government which is itself drowning in scams. Now, Anna Hazare is our only hope.

Anna is campaigning for a strong Lokpal. How will that help you?
Anna is fighting against corruption and we are the worst victims of corruption . If we go to a government office for a job, the officials ask for bribe. If we want scholarships for our children , they ask for bribes. When we tried to make BPL cards, they asked for money. Because we didn't have money to bribe them, they gave us Above Poverty Line cards.

How will a Lokpal check all this?
If there is a strong Lokpal, we can go to him and register our complaints. At the moment, there is no one to complain to. The corrupt are not scared of anyone and they openly ask for bribes even for things which are due to us. When we go to government offices with our caste certificate , they ask us to go away, saying 'You are not Scheduled Caste' .

But you have a SC certificate...

Yes, I have, but it's in English and I don't know what it says (shows the certificate issued by deputy commissioner, south district. It says saperas are SC). This is a useless piece of paper. We have no education. How can we get jobs without education? It's better that the government gives us licenses for performing with snakes. Then we won't have to beg before politicians, and bribe the officials for education and jobs. At least the future of our young men will be secure.

Do you expect the government to listen to your demands ?
We expect nothing from the government. If there is a wedding or a party in your house or neighbourhood, please call us to perform. At least, we will make some money.

Look this guy is more aware than many pseudo intellects.

'This isn't the India I fought for'

As support grows for Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement, a 90-year-old freedom fighter Balram Bhasin in Jammu has said that the spontaneity of the people's uprising reminds him of the Quit India movement that he was a part of 70 years ago. His appeal now to citizens is to support Anna Hazare for a strong Lokpal.

A man, who knows what, fighting for one's countrymen means -- a freedom fighter who was jailed 70 years ago when the Mahatma gave the clarion call of 'Quit India' -- has now come out in full support of Anna's anti-corruption crusade.

Bhasin said, "In 1943, there was a slogan of 'Quit India movement, and people spontaneously joined the movement. Now the slogan is 'Corruption Free India' and people have once again spontaneously joined the movement."

At the age of 90, Balram cannot hide his disdain for systemic corruption in a country. He said, "Even though it’s been over 60 years since Independence, there is rampant corruption, nepotism and exploitation of poor."

Tired of seeing politics degenerate to just a way of making easy money, this freedom fighter is one with Anna's cause and the need for a strong Lokpal.

Over a million join TOI anti-graft drive

NEW DELHI: It's not just the millions that are thronging Ramlila Maidan to express support for Anna Hazare's corruption crusade. Over a million people have cast their votes on The Times of India's online campaign - ACT (Against Corruption Together) - in what is clearly emerging as one of the biggest ever voting exercises in the virtual world. In a matter of three days, from Aug 18 to 20, votes on the site have zoomed from 3.7 lakh to upwards of 12 lakh, with almost 14,000 votes being added every hour.

A senior Times Group official spearheading the campaign says that the response was unprecedented and took everyone by surprise. "The campaign was an effort to simplify various aspects of the issue by providing Team Anna's view, the government view and our own view so that people can take a knowledgeable stand. The massive outpouring of response to ACT confirms that netizens want to make their voice heard and have found the platform offered by the campaign a viable one to do so."

The slew of comments by users, wishing to have their say on the issue also touched a record of sorts. As of Saturday , there were 31,818 comments on the campaign page-the highest ever on any issue, indicating the mood of the people for change. While Gayatri from Pune commented that "corruption was no less than terrorism" , Padmanabhan from Los Angeles termed it as "the best chance to have a country whose citizens can lead a life of dignity , whether they live in India or abroad." Those who want to be a part of this growing online movement can join the campaign by logging on the site timesofindia .indiatimes.com.

Hong Kong based Indians to call up MPs, MLAs asking them to take stand on Anna movement

BEIJING: Expatriate Indians in Hong Kong have decided to mount pressure of members of Parliament and legislative assemblies representing their home town and villages back home as a means to garner political support for the Anna Hazare movement.

The decision was taken on Sunday during what was the second meeting among Hong Kong based Indians trying to add their voices to the national chorus against corruption. They also contributed funds to be sent to the Jan Lok Pal movement organizers.

"We will be calling up the MPs and MLAs from the areas we hail and ask them to take a clear stand against corruption. Whatever parties they may belong to, these leaders must show their commitment to the fight against corruption," Dilip Pandey, one of the organizers of the meeting, told TNN.

The meeting, which was attended by over 500 Indians, also decided that participants will encourage their friends and relatives back home to join the Anna Hazare movement.

The meeting also decided to organize a signature campaign on a memorandum that will be submitted to the Counsel General in Hong Kong.

Volunteers will span out to temples, restaurants and clubs where Indians gather obtain the signatures on the memorandum. Volunteers have over the past few days distributed pamphlets with details of the Jal Lok Pal movement at the entry points of subway stations in Hong Kong.

"We are encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by the participants today. But we will watch the situation developing in India before taking a decision about holding a third meeting," Pandey said.
