Officials Say 499 Islamic Extremists Pose Threat in Germany

BERLIN — Authorities in Germany are monitoring almost 500 Islamic extremists they believe pose a potential security threat, officials said Friday, a day after the arrest of three men suspected of planning to carry out an attack in the country for the Islamic State group.

The men — identified only as Syrian citizens Hamza C., 27; Mahood B., 25; and Abd Arahman A. K., 31 — were arrested in three separate locations across Germany following a tip from a fourth suspect who had approached French authorities earlier this year.

While Germany hasn't suffered mass-casualty attacks by Islamic extremists of the type seen in France and Belgium over recent months, authorities say the country is a target and the risk of attacks is high.

"It's definitely too soon for a fundamental reassessment in light of what happened yesterday," Interior Ministry spokesman Johannes Dimroth said, adding that authorities will have to await the outcome of prosecutors' investigation.

All three of those arrested in Germany were living in refugee shelters, adding to concerns that IS might be sending fighters to Germany disguised as asylum-seekers. Almost 1.1 million people were registered as asylum-seekers in Germany last year, many of them fleeing war and persecution in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dimroth said authorities had received regular tips about possible Islamic extremists coming to Germany as asylum-seekers and were systematically checking those reports. He didn't say how many of the 499 Islamic extremists under observation by state and federal police were asylum-seekers.

Federal prosecutors say the men who were arrested intended to carry out an attack in the western city of Duesseldorf though they had no concrete plans.

German weekly Der Spiegel reported Friday that the plot was to involve a total of 10 attackers, of whom two were to detonate suicide vests. The magazine didn't provide a source for that information, which it said French authorities received from Saleh A., a 25-year-old Syrian in custody in France. None of the suspects' surnames were given due to German privacy rules.

Authorities spent months quietly tracking the three men before swooping Thursday because one of the suspects planned to travel to southern Europe, Der Spiegel reported.

Overall in Germany, Justice Ministry spokesman Philip Scholz said federal prosecutors are currently conducting nearly 120 investigations involving over 180 suspects in connection with terrorism offences.

Wolfgang Bosbach, a senior member of Chancellor Angela Merkel's party, warned Friday against placing all refugees under suspicion.

But he told public broadcaster rbb-Inforadio it was important to know exactly who was coming to Germany.

It won't work that way once the BTT is established. All people and all businesses will be required to hold Indian accounts. If the company wants to move its money offshore, it will only happen after the money's in an Indian bank first.

That might work, I guess, but it's unusual practice and the cost would likely be passed to the customer.

It is unusual. But tax evasion is extremely high in India. Tax collection will increase from $200B to $600B every year if it's implemented.

It is possible, but the consumer's tax in buying stuff is so much lower after that. He has to pay 2% to buy the stuff, and if the company passes their tax to him, that's another 2%. It's tiny compared to today's 15% to 35% that the consumer pays specifically.

And in case companies are passing the extras over to the customer, then the price of the goods also increase thereby increasing competition. A company that doesn't charge them extra is going to sell more. So it's their choice.

In theory there's competition, but in practice price-fixing cartels exist.

The UK’s economic situation is so catastrophic that it became nothing more than a poor showcase of what the British Empire once was. The austerity programs as well as the budget cuts have ruined the country:

Seen with fresh eyes, the UK is not a pretty sight

Economically speaking, the country is benighted, in full recession. Social inequality and poverty have never been more prevalent here, hitting a fragile social class:

Britain's divided decade: the rich are 64% richer than before the recession, while the poor are 57% poorer

Leading hundreds of thousands of people to feed at food banks, something the UK does not even hide anymore:

Britons driven to food banks by poverty seen as 'collateral damage' by DWP, says Trussell Trust

A good leaven for nourishing communitarianism and exclusion:

Asylum seekers in north-east claim they are identifiable by red doors.

The regional divisions are deepening; the country is on the verge of disintegration, for the second time now, after the Scottish referendum in 2014. Today Scotland:

Salmond: indyref2 ‘irresistible’ if Brexit against Scots’ will

    Wales, Northern Ireland:

Brexit: a referendum on Ireland’s future

and the richest regions of the UK threaten to leave the UK, especially in case of a Brexit.

Even in the heart of the City, a state within a state, with the wealth of Britain, a huge financial centre relying on the vast network of tax havens formed by the former British Empire confetti, with its UK Islands and Commonwealth, knowing all this owes its survival to the fact that it is the first European tax haven escaping all regulation, this time is not to be euphoric, since a Brexit would ultimately not be so welcome: a stab in Cameron’s back.

The English blackmail has not just started today. Since the UK joined the European Union (January 1st, 1973), European countries and institutions have lived with a sword of Damocles over their heads. Blackmail after blackmail, slowing any progress of the European integration process, mostly political and democratic integration, the UK was granted a particular regime paved with opting-outs and financial concessions. Every British government, whether Tory or Labour, was stamped with its mark.

Being neither in Euroland (fortunately!) nor in Schengen, and after having rejected the economic and monetary Europe and any process of integration and solidarity between Member States, the marginalization of the UK over the past five years has been accelerated. Thanks to David Cameron’s work for five years now, knowing he was continuously threatening with the Brexit since his first term in 2010, and thanks to his predecessor, Tony Blair, Bush’s “poodle”, and to the City of London, which has done everything to destroy the project of the Euroland, the UK is isolated now, without hope of any help, either from Europe, from the United States or from the rest of the world.

Tired of always hearing the same speech and facing the same blackmail coming from the head of a state which is not even in Europe anymore, all Europeans have left Cameron, finding within the same initial movement that the UK’s claims were totally unacceptable. The sixteen page compromise, presented on February 2 within the preparation of the next EU summit, did nothing but underline even more the isolation of the UK from its European partners and the strengthening of the integrated intra-community zones (Eurozone – Visegrad Group, Schengen …)

Cameron’s European tour, was a fiasco. None of his traditional allies came close to him, neither Germany, even if he called for Angela Merkel’s help, nor Poland, nor Orban’s Hungary (who reminded him that the Hungarians were not migrants but European citizens free to move and work within the EU), or even the Nordic countries, let alone the South of Europe.

The rise of the BRICS countries has moved the axis of geostrategic economic and political interests of the Commonwealth countries. A relic of the world before, the Commonwealth will probably not resist much longer to global geopolitical dislocation. Whether Canada, a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), or New Zealand and Australia, partners of the recent TPP (which may well serve the Australian dollar), or South Africa or India (both BRICS members), all these States are driven to other emerging integration forces that are part of the world today, including Euroland.

The Brexit would deprive the UK’s partners of an entry door into a free trade zone, free of all taxes, and would force them to renegotiate new treaties with the EU, a bad plan for them, certainly, but very bad also for the UK, and even for the EU.

France, please, your country is a mess. France is finished. 30-40 years time and it's going to be full of Arabs and Blacks.

Absolute wrong'un country. What was the point of the Battle of Tours if you were going to bottle like this?

Brexit will soon be in the news. But it's not generated as much media attention as the Scotland referendum.

I do not see what is the problem with Arabs and Black. My grandfather was Arab and she was our Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Human Rights in 2007-2009:

Problem is that multiculturalism destroys diversity, and is a form of genocide. Apparently African nations are only for Africans, Asian nations for Asians, whereas European nations are for everyone.

Not true. You have only considered it from a whites perspective from the current time. There was a time when Africa and Asia was dominated by whites. And whites committed real genocide, not just figuratively or culturally as you are referring to.

So it is obvious who's to blame.

Anyway, in reality, the whole world technically belongs to Indians and Chinese now. :D

Tell that to Charlie Hebdo, the Paris victims, the French policeman and his wife who were stabbed yesterday, and the 713 victims of Islamic terrorism since the start of Ramadan.
