Not really. Terrorism is a good example of asymmetric warfare that cannot be stopped by fighting harder. It can be stopped only by fighting smarter and lobbing ordnance is not that at all.

Please keep in mind that the only way to get the Pak Army to listen is to hurt it what it cherishes holding in its grip the most - the economy. That is a long term game.

We need to destroy their terror infrastructure.. The usual ways are not working.. Out of the box thinking is required. If we talk with them they will surely back stab us sooner or later..even If we respond on Loc , it will have only temporary effect ..
I think we need to go Israel/Mossad on the terrorists leaders.. Unless the leaders of these terror outfits know that they can be taken out.. They will keep killing our soldiers.. Just my thought..
    Anyone with a better plan..

Start printing Pak currency and shower their terror infrastructure with more money to use it against them....

If Pak stops terrorism, then India will gladly accept talks. The thing is we really have no pressure to commit to talks. All countries accept that it is a bilateral issue and as I mentioned earlier, the international community accepts that any forward momentum will take place based on the issue of cross border terrorism.

As it stands today, India gains nothing with talks because the Pak Army has no interest in peace. They want a hot border so they can justify their military spending. If they lose control over the budget and foreign policy, they will obviously lose control over the country. They will even sell Pakistan to China because of their hate for India.

Enmity with India is the raison d'etre for the Pak Army to force its demands on the entire country. It simply cannot allow peace with India for fear of losing its pre-eminence. Having accepted that, one must look for other ways to influence Pakistani policies.

The only alternative is to make armed action extremely expensive for Pakistan. We will force Pak into an arms race that they can never hope to match.

We've barely begun and we've already made the LoC too expensive for them. And that will only get worse and worse for them. If they attack us with 2 mortar units, we will attack back with 20 and for twice the duration. If they destroy 2 posts, we will take out 4 posts. And so on. Every time they start something, we will escalate.

That is a losing strategy, I am afraid. Pakistan is relying on vastly asymmetric warfare, having already accepted that the Indian economy will provide resources to their armed forces that dwarf its own anemic potential in comparison. Please note that their goal is not to beat India in the conventional sense, but to maintain enough of ongoing tensions to justify their own internal stranglehold on power. That is all. Is India willing to play this game or not?

That will be a declaration of war because they are all hiding in Pakistan. The US could do it because they had a lot of influence in the country then.

    There are a few ways.

    -Arms race
    -Diplomatic pressure
-Economic pressure via isolation like N Korea

Except for the first one, the others won't matter to the PA. They will then run Pak like N Korea. Then they will continue having their nukes, and a significant supply of poor people who will take up jihad against India for any number of trumped up reasons. They will start a mercenary service also. And they will continue getting support from China anyway which will make diplomatic and economic pressure irrelevant.

So India is not safe whether Pak is stable or not. And we don't yet know what are the Pak Army's red lines when it comes to diplomatic or economic influence. The US has both and still failed to contain Pak.

But PA will listen to raw military power. We know those red lines quite well. So we will use them if necessary.

Basically, Kashmir will either see a status quo or a military resolution. A peaceful resolution is practically impossible. The Kargil War has already seen to that.

Oh, yeah. India can play this game a lot better than Pak ever can. We can foment trouble in half the territories of Pakistan. Baluchistan, FATA etc. The hotter we keep the LoC, the hotter the Durand Line becomes.

People also forget about Mohajir groups like the MQM that don't like the establishment.

Just as there are anti-Indian elements in India, there are powerful anti-Pak elements in Pakistan as well. It won't take long for us to have these groups trained and armed in Afghanistan and repeat Kashmir all over Pakistan.

We have far too many tricks up our sleeves. And most of them are yet to be used.

I foresee that carefully crafted stalemate continuing.

Well, what is India waiting for? Seriously though, I do not see India doing any of things you mention, at least not on a scale to be effective.

The stalemate is actually status quo. It is in India's advantage.

Some we don't need to do ourselves. Some we don't have to, we can use it as a threat.

For example, Balochistan already has a separatist movement. We only need to fund them, that's the easiest. They can take care of everything else, like arms, training, intelligence gathering etc.

Another good way to counter Pak is to strengthen the Afghan Army. That will force PA to stretch itself to other borders. Right now, ANA is not powerful. But eventually, you can see it being equipped with tanks, aircraft etc, making it another decently powerful headache for the PA.

The status quo is something that I do not see PM Modi being successful in changing significantly. And what you say about Afghanistan being of help in opening up a diversionary front on Pakistan's western front I have already mentioned as being the best strategy forward. Either way, the progress will be painfully slow and nothing dramatic. That, actually, is a good thing, given the added dimension provided by atomic weapons on both sides.

Well they have been declaring war on us then, for a looong time.

They have their weakness. The tactical nuke is an important sign of it.
Threatening with tactical nukes on their territory, shows them squemish to use nukes on our side. So , we can always pound them from over here. We don't want to invade any way. No chance to use tact nukes.
