As Soon as China launched first home-grown aircraft carrier, India is abuzz with a deliberate leak or just an Internet chatter on Possibility of second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine being built by India dubbed officially S-3 will break cover my end of this year.

The second Arihant-class submarine also known as ” INS Aridhaman ” has been under construction from 2010-12 in Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam.

Indian media reports hints Aridhaman might already have seen its soft launch sometime back after reports of outfitting work completed emerged a few years back. INS Arihant which was launched in July 2009 already has been inducted into Indian Navy last year and eight years since its launch news of S-3 breaking cover looks more realistic than ever.

S-3 is considered to be bigger ship then INS Arihant and a proper nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine due to its ability to carry more ballistic missiles than its lead ship. S-4 which is third ballistic missile submarine will be mirror vessel of S-3 and is currently going through hull fabrication.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval as prevented media leaks on Indian Nuclear Submarine program since 2016 due to which there has been a drop in leaks to media about this progress and current status.

I Propose to stop the usage of IDRW as a source here , as its reliability is negative at the best.

Till there are similar reports which report the same thing from other sources, IDRW should not be quoted as a source.

IDRW is a result of a "Berozgaar"keyboard warrior who thinks himself to be a kind of IHS Jane's , and to prove his point often writes falsehood straight out of his rear.

Agreed idrw reliability is questionable but this could be deliberate leak by GOI to send message across Northern border.

Also since China has launched new aircraft carrier this could also be for domestic media and one upmanship.

See on the topic of "SSBN " and its "SLBM" , the policy is utmost secrecy.
Untill we have a "Continuous on station " capability.

Remember there were reports about the K4 test in Jan this year.

The leak of test almost a month before didn't went well with MoD , Indian Navy and SFC.

Measures have been taken to avoid these things totally.

The buzz seems to be hinting towards a deployment of a 120-140 MW reactor. At around 25k shp and towards a 7000-8000 tonnage ship. But no one wants to say much on this for obvious reasons..

Aridhaman is going through trials.. and there is a good tacit understanding that nothing about black projects especially the N sub ones should be in public..

The Indian SSBN project is on track and truly the most capable ones in South East Asia.

The Indian SSN project otoh was facing challenges of incorporating this reactor in their main design .. but what I understand it's more or less clear what's coming in it's heart.. and it will be a more refined version of this new reactor..

The chief challenge now is upping the weapon numbers. Bcz soon in less than 2 decades Indian boomers and N subs implies the sea legs with SLBMs and possibly the SLCMs both N Tipped with the Advent of MIRV tech needs a much larger number..

Now that's a bad news for many.. ppl who think they have better number than us may find themselves outrun pretty quickly.. and it's no magic.. it's clear as daylight with the plan now under implementation..

Will not the use of all Electric Integrated Propulsion system in our SSNs and SSBNs reduce their overall acoustic and thermal signature ?Meaning more stealth!

@anant_s sir will the equipment required to produce electricity from Reactor and a auxiliary generator and then send it to an electric motor , which drives the propellers , take too much space ?

One Russian designed sub is being constructed at L & T, I have information that it is SSN. A friend of mine who works in L & T confirmed this.

Can someone confirm this? If true then this is the biggest and best news. Time to say:cheers:

A 150MW reactor was fabricated long back for the larger SSNs/SSBNs. Arihant series is a multipurpose boat. It is wrong to give anykind of nomenclature to it. The follow on series will be specialised subs based on the data generated from Arihant operations.
