    125MW reactor ....... 8 silos ......... :dance3:

What is the range of K5 ?? How is it different thatn K4 ?? Is there any truth in K4 having two versions .... mk1 and mk2 ??

Does that mean ..... MIRV ??

16 silo SSBN and SSN must be in preliminary design stages now ..... right ??

    ^^^ Excellent video from @SHIV AROOR .....
    To summarise-

-Navy is expecting first indigenous SSN to come in 6-7 years.
-K-4 has been tested from pontoons and might be fired from Arihant in 1-2 months(Ofcourse forumers are saying it's already integrated:biggthumpup:).
-S-4 * will be a bridge between Arihant class and a newer 12000 ton SSBN class comparable to US SSBN classes.

Would have loved to know about timeline for this S-5 though.People are saying here that after S-4*. We will be moving on to building 6 new SSN.So the 12000 ton SSBN class might be decade(s) away.

S5/future SSBNs at best can be compared with a Delta 4 with modern electronics , communication and weapon systems. Getting to the level of US SSBNs is.....

Yeah I think he was just generalizing about more weight.Plus we don't require US level for now.

    They will be built simultaneously.

The SSNs will be made at L&T's Kattupalli shipyard, while the S-5 SSBNs will be made at the SBC in Vizag (the same facility that now builds Arihants).

According to @PARIKRAMA , the IN's SSBN plans are as follows:

    1 x Arihant (4 silos - 4 K-4 SLBMs with unitary warheads)
    2 x Aridhaman-class (8 silos - 8 K-4 SLBMs with unitary warheads, total 16 SLBMs for 2 subs, with 16 warheads)
    1 x S4* SSBN (12 silos - 12 K-4/K-5 SLBMs with unitary warheads if K4 and either 2 or 3-MIRV warheads if K5. 12 SLBMs with 12 warheads if K4 or either 24 or 36 warheads if K5)
    3+3 x S5 SSBN (16 silos - 16 K-5 SLBMs with 2 or 3-MIRV configuration. Either 32 or 48 warheads per sub. Total 96 SLBMs for 6 subs, with either 192 warheads if 2-MIRV or 288 warheads if 3-MIRV)

Adding all up, we're looking at 236 to 344 warheads on the undersea platforms. This is ofcourse, not counting any possible retirement of Arihant and first Aridhaman by the time all 6 S5 SSBNs are commissioned.

Note: The submarine numbers were stated by Parikrama, the missile & warhead numbers are my work. So blame me if something's wrong with them.

    Damn.

Even if we discount Arihant, 2 Aridhamans and 1 S4*....the 3+3 S5s alone will have 96 SLBMs with 384 warheads.
