The question I have is how far has this engine delivered? The first time we tried it we got only 400 HP. I wonder if the new engines are giving the required 1500 BHP power?

@Hellfire time for desperate solutions don't you think? why didn't they build multiple internal structures out of composite for weight reduction for instance?

The deserty terrain along the border areas of Jaisalmer and Barmer makes T-90 as the only viable option that can be operated there. Why the IA still favours the railways as the prime source of transportation for its armoured fleet?

Kanchan is a composite armour. Frankly, I lost interest in this tank about 4-5 years back and have not kept abreast of it. This tank is dead for all practical purposes.

The Next Generation tank will be built on the experience of this tank and we expect it to augment the F-INSAS and FICV projects for both the Mechanised Brigades and the Armoured Brigades.

T-90 is giving an excellent performance in India now. It has the required logistics and repair infrastructure well set up ... beats logic to tear that apart.

Let GoI take up a case to strengthen infrastructure in Western Sector ... and then tell IA to buy this tank! Also let GoI infuse the necessary funds for all this .... that they are not willing to.

Arjun works there too......but spares and logistic line is the issue. Tardy indigenisation by DRDO of the tank.

As for transport .. how else would you transport your tanks, economically, with least logistics requirement and with least destruction of your existing infrastructures/agricultural fields?

Acc to PSK , arjun mk2 will continue to use the current 1400hp engine-tranny with an indigenous cooling system thanks to 8 ton weight reduction and even with all the added equipment it will have better power to weight ratio and lower ground pressure than mk1a.

so that effectively means that the bharat powerpack is effectively dead for good because imo it was just a poster project which intended to use an "imported" 1500hp engine mated with indigenous tranny.

developing an indigenous 1500hp engine just for mbts is cost prohibitive unless the said engine is developed with commercial applications as well.

I for one do not understand the need of transporting your tank fleet some 500 kms away from the forward posts for Repair and maintenance.

Don't worry ... difficult for anyone to understand.

The logic is that forward staging of major repair points requires duplication of assets due to dispersed nature of deployment in peace time.

In case of a war, repair teams are forwardstaged.

This tank will not be fielded in nos. But I believe the Israelis have strongly advised that FMBT should be based on Arjun. They have strongly indicated that tank designs are evolutionary and we should not do anything dumb like dropping Arjun and starting from scratch.
