Fallout of midnight crackdown: Anna to fast again on June 8
    TNN | Jun 5, 2011, 07.15pm IST

NEW DELHI: To protest the midnight crackdown on Ramdev and thousands of his supporters forcibly shutting their hunger strike, Anna Hazare said he will go on hunger strike again on June 8 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Voicing his concern over the midnight crackdown, Anna said he and other members of Lokpal drafting panel will boycott June 6 meeting with government. He also warned the government that if it does not take a lesson, a bigger agitation will be launched.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi this evening, Hazare said the midnight swoop is against the basic tenets of democracy. The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must answer to the people of this country, he said.

Meanwhile, Anna said that the government is not serious about drafting an effective Lokpal Bill. The five civil society members of the Lokpal Bill drafting committee have decided to boycott the meeting of the panel on Monday in New Delhi.

The decision to boycott the meeting comes just a few hours after the crackdown by Delhi Police on Baba Ramdev and his supporters, who were protesting against corruption and the issue of black money, at Delhi's Ramlila Ground on the intervening night of June 4-5.

Several civil society members and social activists have strongly condemned the crackdown on Ramdev and his supporters and their forceful eviction. Veteran Gandhian and Lokpal Bill drafting committee member Anna Hazare, whose four-day long fast in April against corruption forced the United Progressive Alliance ( UPA) Government to form the panel, called it an undemocratic action.

"What the government has done is a blot on democracy. There was no need for the Government to supress this movement and attack those protesting at midnight. It was not right to lathicharge the people at midnight Small children and women were brutally assaulted. The entire country should stand up as one and protest against this brutal and inhuman action," said Hazare.

Action against Ramdev kills purpose of democracy'
    5 Jun 2011, 1156 hrs IST, AGENCIES
After the Delhi Police swooped down on his hunger strike at the Ramlila Maidan in a mid-night operation, veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare on Sunday (June 5) said that the misbehaviour on the part of the government has killed the very purpose of democracy in the country.

Speaking to reporters Anna added, "I am not denying that there might be some problem with Baba Ramdev's demonstration at the Ramlila ground. However, the way the Delhi police behaved against women and small children is a blackmark against democracy."

Not only Anna Hazare, but Justice Santosh Hegde, Lokpal bill drafting committee member, termed the police action against Baba Ramdev and his supporters as violation of "fundamental rights of citizens" and said it "brought back memories" of the Emergency.
"Everyone who was peacefully sleeping there was beaten up and thrown out. Quite an amount of brutality could be seen there. I am very sad and it brings back the memories of June 25-26, 1975," the Karnataka Lokayukta said.

"This is violation of the fundamental rights of citizens and also a violation of the human rights of the people who were present there. It is the fundamental right of the citizens to gather peacefully to demonstrate and till yesterday nothing untoward had happened which gave room for any suspicion that there may be a law and order problem," Justice Hegde, a former judge of the Supreme Court, said.

He said that permission had been given to Ramdev to use the Ramlila ground "may be for yoga but the government of the day knew that it was not yoga that was going on there."

He said the demonstration was "not physical, it was purely vocal...Till 11 PM, everything was OK for the government and suddenly at 12, Baba Ramdev was picked up."

Kanchi seer arrested during a midnight commando action,
baba Ramdev also arrested during midnight?
Anyone remember how madani was arrested!

CONgress Govt took 1 yr to arrest kalmadi,
    ...3 yrs to arrest Raja.
Just 1 day to arrest Ramdev
    who is fighting against corruption.

Arundhati Roy in Delhi can speak "Divide India, Attack India",
But Ramdev cannot demand to get back black money.
    R we Free?

The government has converted a 'yoga-guru'
in to a Minister (Thug) overnight by government
by providing a chartered plane to evict him out of delhi?.

Digvijay singh calling Ramdev a thug
is like Manmohan Singh telling someone he lacks a spinal cord.

President must come to act now.
    UPA Govt should be dissolved.
    Election to be announced.

Jana ji, for the first time you appear to be making sense, gotta appreciate you here.

May be it is just lack of courage in some of the Indians here that they refuse to see this fact.

The President can only dissolve the parliament on the advice of the council of ministers & you can be reasonably sure that such advice is not going to be forthcoming.

I totally support the congress on this, this guy had no reason to hold Delhi at ransom like this. He is a yogi and needs to stick to Yoga and politicize it. Just because he has some followers does not give him the right to hold such political gatherings. He shows up in his private jet and is talking about corruptions and black money, what a joke. Such people will lead India into a civil war and will benefit form it. This baba has always had a political agenda and now that is coming out in full. Hope the people can see through this drama.

he was not fighting corruption, this is not how you do it. He was taking his own agendas forward and trying to bring the publics eye towards him. You cannot have such people hold a country on his demands whenever he wants.

Delhi kisi ke baap ki nahi hain: Ramdev

Baba Ramdev on Sunday night said he was determined to take forward his campaign against black money stashed in foreign banks, from Haridwar.

"I will resume my satyagraha from Patanjali Yogpeeth Ashram. Soon, the protest will shift to Noida. I will talk to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati in this regard on Monday," he told media persons in Haridwar.

The yoga guru had earlier in the evening tried to resume his stir from Noida. However, authorities turned him away, as Section 144 had been imposed in entire Uttar Pradesh.

The car carrying Ramdev was stopped by the UP police at Muzaffarnagar's border with Roorkee, Uttarakhand, at around 7.30 pm, Muzaffarnagar district officials said.

"Several of our activists are injured. About 5,000 supporters are missing. I am pained and sympathise with those who have been victims of brutality. We will not spare those who committed atrocities and will drag them to the Supreme Court."

Taking on the United Progressive Alliance government, which had forced him to leave Delhi in the wee hours of Sunday morning, Baba Ramdev said, "Sarkaar vikaas nahi, Ramdev ka vinaash chahti hain (The government doesn't want development; it wants the destruction of Ramdev).

The yoga guru claimed that the only reason he left Delhi quietly was because he did not want to create a law and order problem.

But he warned that he would take his protests to the national capital again, saying, "Delhi kisi ke baap ki nahi hain (Delhi doesn't belong to anyone's father)."

He also dismissed the allegations made by Congress ministers, especially party general secretary Digvijaya Singh, about the source of funding for his movement.

"I don't have any money or property. So they do the only thing they can, they target our Trust," he said, adding that these were attempts to malign his image.

He challenged the probe agencies to investigate the source of funding of the movement, claiming that he had nothing to hide.

Digvijay himself is a fraud. The fun domecracy in India one fraud is calling someone fraud. Do we belive India is a country that we have?

Is it now right time to ask the question about Baba Ramdev's wealth now? This question be asked earlier? and when a Govt has a free hand to start all kind of inquiry in the Baba Ramdev. then why to weep he has lot of wealth etc.
