Catalonia declares independence as Spain prepares to impose direct rule

    Blatantly wrong.

    Franco died in 1975. The country started to transition after the dictator's death. The current constitution of Spain was written by the Spanish Parliament starting from 1977, and promulgated in 1978. Back then Generalissimo Francisco Franco was still dead, a deadness he has maintained uninterrupted ever since, and which has completely precluded him from taking any sort of part in the penning of the Spanish Constitution.


    As for Spanish violence against the Catalans, I'm sorry to inform you that the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan government's autonomous police force) are worse than the Guardia Nacional in that respect. The entire referendum was a farce anyway, of course it's easy to win a referendum when all the people opposed to it will refuse to vote in it so as not to give it legitimacy.

    The bit not allowing the secession of any parts was written by Franco loyalists, as is the article they're currently exploiting,
