NEW DELHI: The CBI on Monday searched the residence of NDTV founder Prannoy Roy here and three other locations for allegedly causing losses to a private bank. The agency has registered a case against Roy, his wife Radhika and RRPR Holdings for allegedly causing losses of Rs 48 crore to ICICI Bank, CBI sources said. They said the agency was conducting searches at four places in the national capital and Dehradun.

In a statement, NDTV said: "This morning, the CBI stepped up the concerted harassment of NDTV and its promoters based on the same old endless false accusations. NDTV and its promoters will fight tirelessly against this witch-hunt by multiple agencies. We will not succumb to these attempts to blatantly undermine democracy and free speech in India. We have one message to those who are trying to destroy the institutions of India and everything it stands for: we will fight for our country and overcome these forces."

Information and broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu denied NDTV's "witch-hunting" charge and said that "law is taking its own course". "This government doesn't believe in interfering. They(CBI) must have some information, that's why they might have taken steps," Naidu told ANI.

how is a raid a witch hunt? if they are clean, then whats the problem? if they have something to hide - then they should be worried.

If NDTV has not broken any laws, then they are safe. They may not have trust in the govt but surely have trust in the courts?

I OTOH have zero trust in private banks and private companies. So I welcome the probe.

I understand your desperation to shield such people. Yes I dont like Burkha Dutt and want her residence raided since I feel she has a lot of hidden skeletons.

Relax. Raid is a small thing. If it were upto me, I'd molotov her residence. I have zero tolerance of such anti-nationals.

Yes, I'm a Mod and yes, I am out of line. And I don't care about either.

'shield such people'. Making CBI your pooch doggy to cook up cases against your opponents doesn't seem to worry you...oh wait gau protection makes up for that.

CBI pooch doggy - well, let me see, last I checked, the CBI has to produce some proof before it can prosecute someone. raiding is only to try and produce the proof. if there is nothing to worry, why bother?

Also, this was done by previous govts with complete disregard to the institution (CBI). the chickens have come to roost.
