Exactly when everyone is at the starting line if someone is just 1 foot ahead it does not matter when the goal is a 1000 feet ahead.

Something like a billion USD will be intially pumped into DRAL alone, it's absurd to suggest that is just to produce some parts for the Rafale, does anyone know how long it would take to break even just producing some sub-assemblies with such a massive capital investment?

Rafale will give birth to India's actual aerospace industry.

    Better late than never.

NAL, HAL both will be given the boot by DRAL.

I hope by 2030 Indigo is placing orders with DRAL not Airbus.

Well put, it amazes me that some actually think TASL's current activities gives it any favourable position in the fighter market.

Hmm, it's possible I can't deny it but for the forseeable future both HAL and NAL will have a clear edge when it comes to in-house R&D, the private sector in India is far to risk-adverse and are content on being producers only, not designers.

Now that is an interesting thought, certainly DRAL are putting themselves in a decent position to make this possible.

    It's of no consequence.

    Money speaks.

If someone can't put their money where there mouth is they can keep quiet.

Anyways let's all be positive as Indians we aren't finally after 70 long years going to be making aircraft for real.

    Big achievement.

Let the Ambanis make their millions at least that money stays in India not rushing into the Kremlin.

    Isn't that the bitter reality.

Still can't quite believe >200 Mi-17 V5s will be inducted by the Indian armed forces but not one of them will be made in India.

I don't know how old you are but in the 70's and 80's India's Income Tax was nearly 99%.

All of it flew into the Soviet Union and Europe for weapons. India's foreign exchange levels in the above period are absolute proof of what I am saying. We did not have any major import apart from weapons and oil.

Our exporters did not have Chinese competition at that time.

Whatever foreign exchange India's tormented businessmen earned the RBI burnt through it like napalm.
Their income then seized by the govt.

After Kargil war the govt imposed a 10% income tax cess. They removed it in 2006.

When our defence procurements are domesticated ( I am not saying indigenous as Dassault and Thales are French ) so much money will remain in India. I hope Income Tax is removed from India one day as our defence spending starts to be spent in India.

Also I won't be surprised if Mota Bhai buys Dassault in bits and pieces if Doval nudges him to do so.

With the rise of the Private sectors into the aerospace industry, the govt. PSU would be forced to face the competition, and if the Govt. took the right initiative by putting them in the Public listing, thus allowing them to make the deal with the differenct vendors and OEMs of their own choice, the whole competition and the local industry grown around them will build the true aerospace industry in the country, which is a distant dream till now.

Mukesh AMbani has a deal with Dassault (that makes Rafale). No sane businessman will fund elections against congress. After Modi goes the Ambanis are screwed.
