BEIJING --- An advanced fighter concept (AFC) model launched by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) made its debut at the 15th Beijing Aviation Exhibition unveiled yesterday at the China National Convention Center in Beijing.

In the series of fighters developed by AVIC, the AFC model, which made its debut at the Beijing Aviation Exhibition, is a multi-purpose advanced fighter designed to meet the demand of this kind of fighter in the future international arms trading, according to sources.

The fighter adopts the design of single seat, double engines, twin vertical tails and normal layout with such features as high stealth performance, low cost, large bomb load, large combat radius and perfect integration of systems.

In terms of the comprehensive combat effectiveness, China’s advanced fighter is superior to the 3.5-generation fighter and the modified third-generation fighter, basically equivalent to the typical fourth-generation fighters.

Trying to design, develop and manufacture 3 different 5th Generation planes is going to be a challenge to China specially when the investment in it by the State itself. Making two projects would have been ok, but 3 means there is good probablity that one would fail.

The cost of designing and developing a plane is high, but also the cost of production increases when they are built in limited numbers. China which till now succeeded due to mass production techniques, this might be the start of downfall.. How many countries can afford a 5th Generation planes, and now many of them would put their weight behind the Chinese planes that remains the question to be seen.

Maybe they are hoping that Brazil might sort of try a a few planes. Africa has potential but then the leaders are too much involved in embezzlement that they are not really interested in the TOP PLANE.

Pakistan might be interested but what the cost of purchase and cost of operation. There could be Iran, or maybe Syria,,

On the contrary, it not that big or difficult a task. All you have to do is let other people do the hard work of research and design and then just simply steal the data, tweak the design a little bit to avoid allegations of plagiarism, put in your own/Russian avionics, put in Russian engines and thats it!

Chinese are good in mockups and even finished product in appearance. But will it perform upto the expectations is completely a different ball game. I dont think they can or will be able to perform on par.

As we always known we can get the same in appearance but may be sub or low performing aircraft.

The Chinese entered their J-10A into a competitive bidding tender for sale of fighter jets to Myanmar (Burma)...

...it lost to the decades old MiG-29 Fulcrum.

China sure does make great mockups, but to expect these to be on par with its competitors is too much.
