The Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested 10 members, including a Christian, of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) from Khandwa, about 70 km from the Maharashtra border. The group was allegedly planning retaliatory attacks in the wake of the recent arrests of SIMI functionaries across the state. A hardcore member Aqeel Khilji and four others, however, managed to escape, said an ATS official.
In probably the first case of a Christian being associated with the SIMI, Babbu Dominique, 21, was among those arrested on late Monday night.

Inspector general of police (ATS) Vipin Maheshwari said membership forms for the banned group were recovered, along with related literature and four pistols, from the accused.

A top SIMI leader Abu Faisal had recently been caught after the ATS conducted a statewide operation, following the killings of ATS personnel by SIMI operatives. About a dozen SIMI functionaries were earlier arrested from Bhopal and Jabalpur.

Babbu’s antecedents are unknown. “It is yet to be ascertained whether he is ideologically indoctrinated. He might have even got converted,â€￾ said an ATS official.

Babbu's father, Dominique Das, however, said, "My son was coming home after collecting his daily wages when ATS officers picked him up. He knew Zakir, a SIMI man, and that is his only fault."

The ATS also claimed to have solved one of the biggest robberies in the state, at Manappuram Gold finance company, with the recovery of 6 kg gold from the arrested members.

The others arrested on Tuesday are Khalil Chauhan (34), Amjad (22), Ziaurrahman (19), Jalil (18), Irfan (24), Abdullah (19) Rashid (31), Raqeeb (27) and Ashfaq (20).

Of course SIMI is purely a peaceful outfit. But Alvi is maligning their name, so must be jailed. Jail also those who talk of saffron terror.

The case may go to NIA, and they will turn it around and blame RSS, maybe assert that that arrested are actually RSS members.

Former SIMI president arrested in Kochi

KOCHI: Sainudeen Sainalabudeen, former all India president of the banned outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), was arrested on Saturday as he flew in at the international airport here from Dubai. He was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police who had issued a look-out notice for him.

"There were intelligence inputs that he is coming to Kochi and the officials of anti-terror squad of Madhya Pradesh police had arrived here to nab him when he flew in," the immigration SP, Bhuvana Chandran, at Kochi airport told TOI here.

He was produced at the Aluva court and later taken by Madhya Pradesh police to Indore for detailed questioning. A woman and man who had accompanied Sainudeen were let off after interrogation.

Sainudeen (40) hails from Andhra Pradesh and he had arrived here from Dubai on his way to Hyderabad. He was reportedly staying in Dubai after SIMI was banned couple of years back. There were several cases pending against him and he had spent some time in jail in connection with one of those cases.

And supposing the father has been telling the truth? Security officials world over - not just in SA, goof up all the time. And they lie and cook up to cover their error. That is also another fantastic way to increase terrorism.

Mr Ryu, I think you are wrong on this count. If a journalist writes a correct report that exposes wrong doing, it is good because often police and agencies do err also.

Who doesn't know about this. Only when someone faces this situation they realise it. This forum shouldn't be used for slander or cheap personal comments but logical and rational debates.

Hats off to Shams Ur Rehman Alavi for reporting the news. If someone is innocent, he should be released. But if someone is guilty, he should be punished. Courts will do the best judgment.

    Truth shall prevail.
