D.R.D.O has completed its post-contract award control test vehicle flight of the Small Diameter Bomb (SDB).

During the test, an Indian Air Force UAV released the SDB in flight, and after safely separating from the aircraft, the weapon deployed its wings and performed a series of preprogrammed maneuvers.
The mission met all test objectives.

“The SDB is an air-launched, precision-strike standoff weapon that will enable the warfighter to defeat moving and fixed targets in adverse weather conditions,” as per D.R.D.O Missile Systems vice president of Air Warfare Systems. “With its tri-mode seeker and highly lethal warhead, SDB will prove an ideal solution for the warfighter.”

SDB incorporates an improved seeker that features three modes of operation:

    The millimeter-wave radar
The uncooled imaging infrared seeker which reduces the total life-cycle cost of the weapon and improves reliability by reducing part count.
    and
    The semiactive laser.

“This test demonstrates the high performance of the SDB design and validates the aerodynamic performance mold used in our simulations,” said D.R.D.O’s SDB program director.

I don't know if it is true......
This source is from Jun 2011. If this is true.... this bomb should be better then current American SDB and comparable to Raytheon SDB II which is planned for introduction in 2017.
    That's why I doubt it..

Current U.S. SDB uses GPS/INS navigation system.... Which give it CEP of 10 meters. SDB II will have Millimeter-wave radar/Semi-active laser guidance system which will allow it to hit moving target in all weather conditions. Now this article claims for same Bomb by DRDO, that even before USA. :dude:

DRDO always announces even before the project is in design boards. Nothing surprising.
