DAC approves proposals worth Rs 860 crore; Barak missiles for naval warships

    NEW DELHI: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) led by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today approved capital acquisition proposals, including Barak missiles for navalwarships, totalling over Rs 860 crore.

    According to Defence Ministry sources, the important proposals approved by the DAC include:

    1. Procurement of Barak Missiles for naval warships. This comes with a categorisation of ‘Buy Global’ under the Option Clause from Rafael Advance Defense Systems Limited.


    2. Procurement of equipment to countermines in the sea. The equipment is being procured as a repeat order with ‘Buy Global’ Categorisation at a cost of Rs 311 crore.

    3. Procurement of Expendable Bathy Thermograph Systems for the Indian Navy with a categorization of Buy Global under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Route from the US.

    The DAC also reviewed several old proposals and gave instructions for the speedy processing of proposals.
