Like Nirvana explained, it's a different weight class and it's not only IA that goes for an LUH class helicopter, IAF is replacing the older Cheetah's and Chetak's with the winner of the same competition, while IN has an own competition for 60 new LUH as well (the Fennec is competing there as well).

Indigenous Production of Material Used in ALH

ALH is a Helicopter which has been designed and developed indigenously by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL). It is assessed that 69% of the material used in Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) is procured from foreign sources. However, in terms of the number of components involved, around 90% of the components are indigenously manufactured,

HAL has been constantly trying to indigenize manufacture of components, electronics, avionics etc. As a result, critical items like Rotor Blades which were being imported earlier are now being manufactured indigenously by HAL. The Company is also manufacturing power transmission systems like the main gear box.

This information was given by Minister of State for Defence Shri MM Pallam Raju in a written reply to Shrimati Vasanthi Stanley in Rajya Sabha today.

Re: In Siachen, Dhruv PROVES A world-beater

In page 3 an article shows that 70% of materials are foreign made but 90% components are indigenous, may I know the difference, and I think the figures are wildly exaggerated COMMON EVEN A DUMB NATION LIKE PAKISTAN CAN MAKE A HELICOPTER WITH 70% FOREIGN COMPONENTS, I think it is much foreign equipment is much less around 30 maybe

I think that LCH could attend a more or less similar height or maybe a bit more with the difference that LCH's maneuverability and stability would be far better than the Dhruv owing to its air to air combat role!

ALH= Advanced Light Helicopter named as Dhurv, Rudra is a derivative of it, a whole dedicated wiki page is available to learn more about it.

final operational testing of rudra has already been completed and according to the sources inside the IAF,drdo has made a preety good attack helicopter out of the dhruv platform.i read somewhere that the rudra would get inducted in both IA and IAF from march this year.but i guess drdo has already missed that deadline!
