    • Quick reaction surface-to-air short range missile test-fired
    • [ - ] Text [ + ]
    18:43 HRS IST
Balasore (Odisha), June 4 (PTI) India today successfully test-fired an indigenously developed quick reaction surface- to-air short range missile from a test range along the Odisha coast.

The sophisticated missile was test-fired at about 12.40 pm from a truck-mounted canister launcher from launch complex-1 at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near here, official sources said.

It was a developmental trial of the state-of-the-art missile, which engaged an aerial target successfully, they said, adding that the QR-SAM was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and other establishments.

The missile, which has a strike range of 20 to 30 kms, is capable of engaging multiple targets. Designed to be a quick reaction missile, it is an all-weather weapon system capable of tracking and firing, the sources said.

Some more rounds of trial of the weapon system are expected to be conducted in the near future from the same test range.

    Quick question regarding this QRSAM

    1. Is it based on the A2A BVRAM Astra ?

    2. Can it be used on the move ?

    3. Active Seeker -- IR, IIR or RF ?

    4. Comparison with the Spyder ?

    5. Canistarized or not ?

    6. Apart from IA, does IAF or IN expresses any interest ?

    7. Why Maitri project, when this project could be customized for it with IR/IIR seeker.

    1. Not really. (Might be using some components)
    2. Fire on Short halts
    3. RF
    4. Better range, cheaper, no IR missile
    5. Canister
    6. IAF have SPYDER, IN version will take time.
    7. There is no Maitri for IA

    1. Are you sure since the logical step after A2A AAM is the ground launched version e.g Python -- Spyder ?

    2. OK, but is it Vertical launched ?

    3. Which Seeker Agaat (Russia) Or Desi

    4. Range of Spyder = 30 KM, IR seeker is effective against low altitude Cruise missile.

    5. Square boxed launcher is not canistarized ?

    6. Why two different product, increasing the logistic and support.

    7. Maitri, QRSAM for Navy which is VL MICA
