I think the "Mandarins" (Babus) of MoD need to wake up and revive negotiations with BAE (ex Bofors) for their howitzers. That gun is tried and tested by the Arty. Regts. of the IA. And they are well approved of. Its time to discard the tendering "humbug" that is leading nowhere. The BAE/Bofors howitzers should be manufactured under licence in wheeled, tracked and towed versions. The combined requirement is likely to cross 2000 and reach upto 2500. That will lead to huge economies of scale and will be viable to set up a separate production line.

IMO, these guns combined with the MBRLs will be a sufficient heavy artillery force for the Army.

Good for US, a small doubt i know TANKS run on diesel engines and Petrol is more powerful in ignition and heat why do we use them then is it cost or some thing more advantageous, always had this doubt but never asked and this info on pdf reminded me again so 1ly.

    Thanks

^^^ 1-well they are more rugged
    2-more torque at slower speeds
    3-diesel is cheaper then petrol
4-and the most importantly from the Indian point of view , they give more mileage !!!

It is already inducted. The only problem was they had to stop production as they did not get further "main guns" due to sanctions on the producer. Army has at least 45-60 BHIMs. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a source.

I could be wrong, but keeping a constant engine size, petrol engine produces more power than a diesel engine.
