How much would F-INSAS cost when each and every soldier is Upgraded to One ??? Wouldnt that bring a considerable change in the Defense spending???

F-Insas would cost upwards of 2 lacs even with the basic gear. Multiply that with the number of soldiers and boom.

    2,00,000 x 10,00,000 almost 4.16 billion dollars.

Now if some nice gear is put on(like the one shown by TATA), then the cost would be somewhere around $8-10 billions

and all this is without a new gun. If we add the price of a new gun, it will be somewhere around $18-20 billions

But the $80 billion budget doesn't include F-Insas right now. F-Insas is still just a concept. It will take at least 10 more years to make it operational, and 20 more years to deploy it on every soldier.

But its rumored To be in the Induction Line starting from 2012 Onwards..... And again even if it costs 20b $ to equip every soldier with it, It would not take 20 years, In defense Expo it had been Displayed, So its not a mere concept any more but We are at a Pre production Stage...

^^ that was an an old news which stated that f-insas will b inducted by 2012,this is 2010 and no news abt the induction of f-insas,the amount required to equip every soldier as stated by jagjit is also very high and is not part of the 80 billion plan,so it means we can expect f-insas only after 5 yrs

I think they displayed a concept of F-INSAS in def expo... It will take some more time to develop all the equipments. We still need a new rifle right?

^^well i dont said it is just a concept, but the point i am making is i dont think it will b inducted so soon only due to the cost,i think the special forces will b equipped with it for the the f-insas gears for the 1st few yrs before introducing it to the regular military

    ^^ correct.

Every equipment is inducted in several stages.

The special forces will get the F-Insas first.
    Then the other commandos.
Then the high ranked officers in Kashmir
Then the officers in North east
Then slowly the induction would follow in lower ranks.

The F-Insas displayed was a concept by TATA and its just proposed to the IA. There is no mentioned if it was cleared by the IA or not.

So its still too far from now.

It is good if it has been funded already. I just heard of the deal to acquire modular weapons like corner shot and Tav from Israel.

India is not making. Just buying them. Our special forces have already started using them in Kashmir.
