Ex-Wipro veteran, Sridhar Mitta pushes information technology services to tier-II towns

BANGALORE: Going to Tier II and Tier III cities has always been an iffy thing for technology firms. One who hasn't been shy of a small-town foray is veteran technopreneur Sridhar Mitta. Calling it social entrepreneurship, he is pushing information technology services into the second-rung cities by creating a different business model. While bigger corporations have been toying with the idea, they haven't done anything significant.

What Mitta is looking to do is to employ 10,000 graduates from non-metros over the next three years by setting up 40 development centres through his year-and-half venture. He simply calls it social entrepreneurship.

Excellent move. Companies & GOI should move focus to Tier-2/3 cities, small towns and semi-rural areas if we are to achieve homogeneous and faster development. It's a win-win scenario for all parties.

There is a huge talent base in tier-ii and tier-iii cities. It is a good move by IT companies to recruit directly from such cities. They can take benefit from SEZs too that are present in those cities.

    I hearltly support the move.

Actually there was (and still is) a problem with planning of our cities. If we look closely, each metro is central of education, political, economic activities altogether. Had this been decentralised, we would be in a better situation now. Anyaws better late than never.

Spreading the cake is the need of the hour. Someone has to do it. It is great to see people like Sridhar doing it. Way to go.

Very good initiative I would say, there is a lot of talent in the NE states as well as the eastern states. I support capturing the talent in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand (Would love to work here :thank_you2:), and Orissa. A lot of graduates currently graduate from these areas and have to migrate to other cities in order to find the jobs.

Urgent need of the hour is for these govts to give enough incentive to welcome the top tier companies to move into other areas of the country. As is the current centers are well above their capacity in terms of population.
