That's just a Trump rant. I want to know what he'll say when he sees how many jobs are linked to the program. He is now a politician after all.

Think about it this way, the F-35 jobs will eventually increase to over 150,000. If he cancels the program, a large chunk of these people are jobless.

If he sets up a replacement program, say the F-16 itself, it will take more than 4 years to deliver a new aircraft to spec, the USAF will insist on F-35 technologies to be incorporated obviously. So this program will mature and start creating jobs only after Trump leaves office. Not a good idea for Trump.

Instead, at best, I think he will cut F-35 numbers and focus more on the development of next gen aircraft.

I think Trump is an all together new kind of stupid for US president. He does not know that more equipment does not necessarily means good equipment as additional equipment would need additional manpower to function.

If USAF and USN take new F15, F16 and SH18, it will give works to a lot of people instead.
The problem is : what is the real value of F35? Cost to benefit?

If Trump offers the USAF older jets, they will ask for modifications. Any block development will take a few years and production will take another 3 years. So these new jets will start coming in only after Trump has left office.

Meaning Trump may have canceled the F-35 program. But all he has done is taken away 150k jobs during his 4 year term and added no new jobs.

None of those are ready according to USAF specs, they are 'almost' ready only according to their manufacturer's specs. You forget that the USAF can force a delay. They can ask for a heavily modernized engine, airframe modifications, newer avionics. Anything that can delay the F-35's competition to well after Trump's term.

Yes but congress can buy what it wants against wishes of USAF (example budget to continue to use A-10)

That won't happen because the USAF will make it way too hard. The F-35 is a critical requirement, the A-10 is not.

The USAF won't accept a vanilla F-16 or a vanilla F-15. They will ask for huge modifications, most of them are not available. For example, the F-15 with F-35 tech. And you know how long that will take.

No matter what Trump says, he has no clue about the F-35's involvement in US economy. Once he is given that information, he will change his mind.

Most people like Trump, Prime Minister of Canada don't know about or understand the ability of the F35, it seems any one that has the highly classified briefing on the F35 approve of the plane whole heartly.

Question is, how much money was transferred in these secret briefings...and what corporate positions were assured for these people after they retire from service/politics.

Come on...Trump specifically wants to curb this practice of Generals & servicemen pushing through acquisition orders from certain companies and then getting well-paying positions within those companies after they retire.

No, he is not crazy. He lies a lot or makes stuff up as he goes. People confuse that to being crazy.

In India, he's a normal guy.
