I just dont understand why DM wants a single engine plane,
That might in a way compromise the numbers and further development of Tejas.

I always believed that due to constraints in local production rate, & to maintain decent numbers, it would be best for India to go for Gripen in Single MII & Rafael in Double MII in parallel with LCA/LSA & AMCA development & production & retain Russian planes in Heavy segment.
Eventually we need more local homegrown planes, especially LSA types & supporting with Heart & Soul to vsol in his endeavours.

This Perhaps is a clear indication that the MoD and the Armed Forces just don't trust the Development Agencies...And are not satisfied with the product...

After spending decades and billions on LCA...The AF just ordered 83... Just 83...And is looking for a new Single Engine LWF...The Navy too pulled out from the NLCA....This is a strong indication....

    I mean.....The LCA seems to be dead....Dead...
Unless the PSU's pull off some miracle and make the fighter competent in the eyes of the AF....And IN and MoD...

    Yes My friend .....
    And... Uttam...And Astra Mk.2...And NGARM...And everything else....

I just hope that HAL realises this is their last chance....And make the Mk1A So awesome that the Forces atleast get 200-250 of them....And give some boost to our Desi aerospace industry....

PS : I known this is like hoping 'a pile grass will eat a grasshopper'...
    But...One can always wish..

    Murmurs heard
    • A F16 of Israeli Origin - Soufa had landed in an IAF base for high altitude tests.
    • Termed unofficial this may be for data collection for a customized offering under performance package tests to be done later.
    • Interesting is the fact that ISRAELI Weapons in BVR, WVR and LGB are already with IAF and litening pod as well.. such common weapons helps in reducing other costs divided between the fleet already using it. And also a MII with BDL seems to be moving ahead.

    83+ 40

Orders are not important .. We can change numbers Anytime we want.
It's the end product that matters..

Key: SELWF=Single Engine Light Weight Fighter...

Well Brother, '83+40' isn't enough too...
The Numbers do matter....It is my belief that if the Tejas would have been satisfactory for the forces... There wouldn't ever have been a SELWF tender....
According to online chatter these days...The MoD wants some 200-250 SELWF's....

If the Tejas would have been ready on time, competent and truly indigenous...(with Kaveri and Uttam and Astra and Others...) then perhaps the MoD wouldn't have ever needed a SELWF program....

If the Govt. Goes with 200-250 fighters like the Gripen or other similar fighter...We all know exactly what that means wrt to the Tejas....
