Woohooo.... The dreams of having a Less Type of Frames with each in it own specialised ROLE!!!! .... is near .. woohoo!

Still would like a more better news for Rafale for the IN , that would have made my day too!

ALSO something tell our neighbour that NEW F16s will not be available, and that ONLY hand be downs will available IF you can PAY the full prices :p

I doubt this offer may even differ anything from F35 offer ?
    Thank God !

This SE another line has been an irritation.
Hope both contestants get terminated .

Once Safran Kaveri gets inducted , we might see next level of offerings ...,

and the good fortune of India has prevailed... we are not going to be part of mass murders of people just for few greedy corporations.. because thats what those 2 agreements and these vintage F-16 would have wanted..

and best thing is not IAF is not left with any thing else then LCA.. so may be they take it seriously and help in LCA mk2.

    a good news.

Who was supporting F-16 anyways? Gripen looks like a choice but also comes with lots of conditions from USA and has too many suppliers. Both the jets are useless for country like India, which needs s product with complete ownership and good offset package. Its either Rafale or LCA MK2 looks viable choice to me.

But LCA MK2 means mini AMCA, otherwise we are wasting our resources.

It is up to India to see what serves its own national interest best. Sometimes, there is alignment of the national interests of two (or more) countries. Sometimes not. That is the way international geopolitics work. A late model properly equipped F-16 will remain a formidable jet for a considerable number of years yet.

F-16 has paid American stooges. They will slink back in their caves. It was well known that the US won't allow their jets to be used for offensive missions. USS Trenton is the same.

LM had officially said they won't move production to India after Trump came to power, that ended the deal right there.

    SH will be no different.

    Good for us. :D

If conditions for F16 are this much, I wonder what will be for F35?

We might see less number of buyers of F35, some may even cancel..

It's good for European aviation I guess.

I guess this wasn't unforseen .But one gave the benefit of doubt to the US considering that what was on offer wasn't cutting edge , state of the art stuff .

The US playing hardball with the F16 seems silly. One could've understood these T & C's as part of supply of F-35.
The F-16's are simply not worth all this bother..

Which brings me back to my favourite question .Where do those replacements of those 250 - 300 odd MiG 21 and 27's come from ? Given that by 2021 we shall be rid of them .

The Gripen -NG / E is a good FA but if the Mk2 comes out by 2025 , I doubt there's going to be much to choose from between the 2 .We don't have anything much to gain either vide technology or ToT opting for the Gripen .The disadvantages in terms of managing the supply chain for Spares is a big nightmare .Add to that the cost of procurement .The latter two points far offset whatever edge the Gripen may have over the Mk2.

I think it's going to be the Mk2 now .Our default Back up plan .Back to the drawing board with it and this time I hope all the concerned parties would've learnt their lessons and learnt it right .

This time the ADA / HAL combine better come up with Mk2 pronto with the IAF / IN extending their complete co operation else we're up shit Creek without a paddle .

It's not the F-16 or the F-35 but the US influence and support in the NSG and UN security council that comes with it. I am not sure if India really needs that.

You are correct in that national interests can take many forms, not just military hardware.
