Four killed in freak accident at Aligarh junction

    Aligarh: Four persons were killed and atleast seven others injured on Sunday after a brake lever snapped from a freight train at Aligarh junction and the wheel ploughed into passengers waiting at the platform, police sources said here.

    The incident occurred last evening when brake wheel of a passing goods train snapped from one of the wagons and hit the passengers waiting at Platform Number 2 of the railway station, they said.

    While two persons were killed on the spot, two others died at the hospital, sources said.

    The injured were admitted to different hospital where condition of three was stated to be critical, they said.

    The Railway Ministry in Delhi announced an enhanced ex-gratia compensation to victims, their kith and kin at Aligarh station last evening.

    The relatives of the four people who died in the train accident will get Rs. 2 lakh, while persons who have received grievous injuries will get Rs. 50,000. Those with minor injuries will be paid Rs. 15,000.

    The Railways have ordered an inquiry into the accident.

    Freak accident at UP station, 1 killed

    ALIGARH: In the second such incident in last two days, a 10-year-old boy was on Monday killed and two others injured when the brake wheel of Rajdhani Express snapped and hit passengers at Hathras station, police said here.

    The incident occurred this morning when the brake wheel of Ranchi-Delhi Rajdhani Express snapped and hit the passengers sitting at the platform while waiting for another train this morning, they said.

    A boy was killed on the spot, they said, adding the two injured have been admitted to a hospital.

    Four persons were killed and at least seven others injured in a similar incident yesterday after a brake lever snapped from a freight train at Aligarh junction and the wheel ploughed into passengers waiting at the platform.

    Watching the video it is clear that these fools were walking way too close to the train. Are the railway authorities fools that they have drawn a yellow line and advice people to stand behind it whenever a train crosses as station? The authorities are aware that these kind of freak mishaps can happen. Those killed unfortunately have themselves to blame. RIP to the dead. But I hope people learn something from this incident.
