    Indo-Sri Lankan Joint Exercise

The IAF has recently participated in a joint exercise with Sri Lankan forces. A transport aircraft of IAF had ferried a contingent of 65 members of IAF personnel on 09 Jul 17 to Sri Lanka with an aim of carrying out joint training. The contingent included a sky diving team along with the Air Warrior Drill Team. While at Colombo, joint para drops were carried out along with Sri Lankan troops.

This exercise offered an opportunity to both, the IAF and SLAF contingent members, to observe each others’ Standard Operating Procedures as well as exchange ideas on joint operations. The Air Warrior Drill Team also displayed its immaculate coordinated weapons drill at Colombo. The team would arrive at Trivandrum on 14 Jul 17 after a very satisfying joint exercise.

India Interested in Unique Russian SOKOL Airbase Security System

SOKOL uses cameras and heat detectors to pinpoint security breaches before sending data to security personnel. Detectors can be concealed underground and provide the guarded area with a multi-layer protection system. Indian clients already had an interest in the system at February's Aero India 2017. The system drew Indian interest due to the country's terrorist concerns and Rosoboronexport said it was ready to tailor SOKOL to Indian needs.
"The unique system already caught attention of our partners from India and we count on it to pique interest on the part of customers from other countries in view of the growing terrorist threat. Promotion of such products paves the way for us to the market of hi-tech special-purpose equipment," Goreslavsky said, as quoted in a statement.
According to the statement, a person detected violating the boundaries of a protected site leads the system to adjust cameras automatically and inform the officers on duty about the intrusion.
"The trespasser may even not know that he has been detected, for the elements of the system can be buried into the ground forming up warning lines. Meanwhile, it has no impact whatsoever on the detection accuracy, which is within 5m, while the protected boundary can be as long as 100km," the press service noted.

Hmm...donate? or will the price be baked into the overall defence deals with France? Like the Ludicrous M2K upgrade cost. Anyways, this will be a welcome addition, BUT, IAF seriously needs to augment its interceptor fleet. The strike and air dominance aspects are fairly robust, where IAF is developing a weak spot is interdiction and interception, a role that the Mig 21 played so well. Hence, IMHO, IAF should seriously look at the option of Mig 29/35 since these fighters will most likely be fighting close to our borders and over our airspace. Hence long legs are not needed. For the long legged role, the Flankers and Rafale will suffice.

They won't be put into operational roles, they will never fly in the IAF.
