The first and the most important thing our defence forces need is submarines.India has absorbed part of French and Russian technology in submarine construction. So,since they plan to design and build all subs inhouse post project-75i,it makes sense to give project to third country which will offer something new.Strategically too,India and japan are inching towards each other due to obvious reasons.

    I gave up, bro.

I don't know what IN wants anymore. Maybe they started thinking B8 is too valuable to waste on close-in/low-altitude threats. Maybe they'll even put SRSAMs on P-15As in future as part of MLU.

Or maybe Shiv made a mistake.

INDIAN NAVY, COASTGUARD SEAL MARITIME BORDERS

The intelligence agencies have issued warning that the Rohingiyas would try to sneak into Indian territory using sea routes, after which the maritime boundary has been sealed by coastguards and the navy to prevent therm from entering India.

The Rohingiyas can enter from Bangladeshi waters or Andaman and Nicobar Islands from Myanmarese waters, the agencies have warned.
"Maritime surveillance aircraft including Dorniers, hovercraft and patrolling ships of the border guarding forces have been activated in the entire region to prevent the influx of Rohingiyas, who are seen as a major threat to national security by the Centre," a senior government source told.

So far, no major activity has been noticed, but the vigil has been upgraded and the forces are on high alert.

The spy agencies also fear that the Rohingiya's fist aim would be to reach Bengal in view off the pro-Rohingiya stand taken by the state government under Mamata Banerjee.
International traffickers are also getting involved in the racket and may even try to occupy uninhabited islands in Andaman and Nicobar, the security agencies fear.
The government has told the Supreme Court that Rohingya refugees pose a big security threat as many of them have links with terror organisations and Pakistan's ISI.

MEANWHILE, CENTRE STANDS FIRM ON IT GROUND

Despite criticism from the opposition questioning its stand on Rohingya Muslims, the Centre has been firm that those who have illegally entered the country and pose a threat to national security will be deported. This stand was filed in the form of an affidavit yesterday in the Supreme Court, and today the BJP reiterated that in public as well.
Speaking to media persons, BJP general secretary, Ram Madhav, said the decision to let Rohingyas stay in India or not is in the executive's domain and the latter will take an appropriate decision.
"We will handle on the basis of national security and deal in appropriate manner," he confirmed. Dismissing those challenging the secular credentials of the government in insisting on deporting Rohingya refugees, Madhav said there was nothing communal about the decision.

Commenting on the criticisms being made by the opposition, Madhav quipped, "They have been defending black money and dynasty in this country. It is the character of some leaders in the opposition in this country".

Currently 40,000 Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar have taken refuge in India after facing persecution back home. The Indian government has told the Supreme Court they will have to go back, due to links with terror outfits like Islamic State.

INS Tarasa joins the Indian Navy

INS Tarasa, a patrol vessel of the Car Nicobar class of Indian Navy, was commissioned today at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.
Built by the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, the INS Tarasa is a Water Jet Fast Attack Craft that will be used for anti-smuggling and search and rescue operations.
It is the last of the 10 patrol vessels built by the GRSE for the Indian Navy.
Launched in June 2016, the craft has undergone extensive sea trials before being handed over to the Navy.
The ship can do a maximum speed of 35 knots, which makes it ideal for intercepting fast-moving vessels, and is is equipped with shoulder-launched Igla surface-to-air missiles for low-altitude anti-air warfare. The 30 mm main gun indigenously built fitted on the bow deck can fire 550 rounds a minute for a maximum range of 4,000m.

Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman clears acquisition of Klub cruise missiles, upgraded Sonars for Indian Navy

In her maiden Defence Acquisition Council meeting, Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday cleared several proposals to bolster firepower and capabilities of naval warships, including the procurement of Russian Klub missiles for the maritime force. “The DAC cleared Indian Navy proposals worth Rs 200 crore for upgraded SONARs for its destroyers and frigates through Make in India route. These will enhance the anti-submarine warfare capability of the force. The meeting also cleared procurement of missiles for replenishing the naval inventory,” Defence ministry spokesperson Mattu J P Singh said. The Klub missiles, cleared for the Navy, would be equipped on the older warships, including the Kora class missile corvettes and the Delhi class frigates, as the newer ships operate with the latest BrahMos anti-ship cruise missiles. During the meeting, the Defence minister also made it clear that all issues related to the procurement cases should be sorted out before they are presented before the DAC, the apex-body for clearing procurements.

    DAC MEETINGS ON FORTNIGHTLY BASIS

The Minister has decided to hold the DAC meetings on fortnightly basis to sort out the issues related to procurements and clear them in short timeframe. In the meeting today, Sitharaman also reviewed the status of the Capital Acquisition Schemes and directed that the schemes are to be meticulously monitored and brought to maturity within stipulated timelines. The armed forces have come into a mission mode in the last few weeks to present their requirements to Sitharaman to discuss stuck projects and proposals on a daily basis with the three service chiefs.

Again, I'm gonna say I'm glad that DM NS is doing these daily meets with service chiefs and fortnightly DAC meets, I truly wish her all the best!

Now, on to the details: Klubs for Kora-class corvettes & Delhi-class destroyers??? Isn't this going to require a complete overhaul of the fire control and launch systems? Need to install new tubes and everything...I'm struggling to come to terms with this news. Unless, ofcourse the spokesperson/reporters made a mistake and what the DAC actually cleared were new Kh-35s. In which case too, it's surprising because IN has just floated a new competition/tender for selecting the Kh-35 replacement.

Are we to assume these are replenishment stocks procured to replace some of the oldest Urans in service as an interim?

It may have been mis-reported and could have been a possible acquisition of further tranche of Klub-S versions for the submarine fleet. As far as I know there is nothing on horizon for changeover of Kh-35 being implemented on ground yet. Yes, the older R-Classes are getting VLS for Brahmos as they undergo their refits.
