The defence ministry has handed over pictures to ministry of external affairs which would help it substantiate charges that it was PNS Babur which had indulged in "risky and dangerous" manoeuvres against INS Godavari that would have jeopardised the safety of its crew.

Sources said the defence ministry has handed over pictures of the incident which would help it prove that it was PNS Babur that had flouted relevant regulations on navigational safety by indulging in "risky" manoeuvres.

India had lodged the protest yesterday through the high commission of Pakistan in New Delhi. The ministry of external affairs in a statement had said the naval adviser of Pakistan high commission was summoned by the ministry of defence and "our serious concern on this incident was conveyed".

An Indian Navy official said, "Reports of aggression by INS Godavari are incorrect and based on misinformation." Some Indian and Pakistan nationals were on board MV Suez.

The war of words erupted just days ahead of the talks between the foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan in Islamabad on June 24-25.

Pakistan had lodged a protest earlier with the Indian high commission in Islamabad over what it alleged were dangerous manoeuvres by INS Godavari which "brushed" its frigate escorting MV Suez, a Egyptian-owned vessel released by Somali pirates earlier this week after over $2 million ransom was paid for its 22-member crew including six Indians and four Pakistanis.

Pakistan also called the alleged incident on Thursday as serious.

it's a classic case of shooting your own foot. Pakistan earned enough goodwill for their gesture! But in their quest of gaining more mileage out of this episode.. looks like they got bit carried away. On other hand India did let them have the limelight by not publicising this episode! then again.. pakistan asked for it.. so now it's only fair that india pursues this aggressively & take out all those mileage pakistan gained!!

India didn't start it, pakistan is always itching to attack India either verbally or with weapons and they pay a big price for it every-time.

i think india should stop speaking and showing the proof, we already had a fraud with your 50 terrorist list

pakitan didnt start for no reason, your ship didnt respond to your people's call for rescue, but they they came into the PNS babur's way to hinder its humanitarian work, if you say we are spreading the propaganda, then we didnt invite you so that we can make propaganda, also we were the first one to complain, that means pakistan has more authenticity, india just retorted in a foolish way to show they were not guilty

Pakistan did a great job & everyone is thankful to their generous gesture. But you need to have a look to find out who brought this episode of indian warship brushing pakistani frigate?? So in your openion india should have just sat back & taken the criticism?? There is a classic say, which goes like.. 'don't bite off more than you can chew'.. & it's just a timely reminder!!

Just one isolated incident doesn't prove anything maybe Indian navy was busy who knows... India protected even your country by rounding up several hundred Somali pirates in the past.

    Certain Clarifications:
    1. It is not only "OUR" people. The captain is a Pakistani and had Pakistani, Indian as well as crew from other countries.
    2. INS Godavari was busy escorting two other ships and therefore did not respond to the call as PNS Babur was already responding.
    3. MEA has handed over the proof of rough manoeuvres of PNS Babur to Pakistan. It is upto you to believe it or not. Chances are you won't. And I wouldn't call this foolish. Crying out loudly without proof, that would be foolish.

PNS Babur had struck the rear of INS Godavari and some of the nets which were on the helo deck got damaged. In naval Rules of the Road, it is the responsibility of a ship which is abaft the beam of another ship to stay clear. Since PNS Babur struck the rear of INS Godavari, whichever way you look at it, it was clearly a fault of PNS Babur. The CO of INS Godavari is an aviator and fighter pilot. he is one of the most cool headed guys from naval aviation.
