SUCCESSFUL TEST FIRING OF GUIDED PINAKA

The Pinaka Rocket converted to a Guided Pinaka was successfully test-fired from Launch Complex-III, ITR, Chandipur today. The Pinaka Rocket Mark-II, which evolved from Pinaka Mark-I is equipped with a navigation, guidance and control kit and has been transformed to a Guided Pinaka. This conversion has considerably enhanced the range and accuracy of Pinaka. The test-firing has met all mission objectives. Ae people....Help me out here...
So they put a guidance and navigation system on a rocket....
And....They are calling it a "guided rocket"....My question is.... Doesn't that make it a missile...!?

I mean....A guided rocket is basically a missile right....!?

    Anyway....

I love the Pinaka System...All of its iterations....( except that Tatra truck ).... It's all awesome.....
The Army is happy with it too....They are ordering thousands of the Mk1 and Mk2 Rockets....

A truly successful DRDO project....Now just get an Indian Truck for it...(There are many....many... Indian Trucks that can replace that Tatra)... And it could be an awesome export piece....

    Congratulations DRDO...

PS: So this is the Mk.2 with 65 Km range..or Mk.3 !? Anyone knows what amount of warhead weight it can carry (Payload)
    Any Idea members....!?

PPS: Tata is also supplying launchers and command post for a certain iteration of Pinaka... Cool... Awesome...

Army can consider TATA or Ashok Leyland's truck for further Pinaka orders.

Thing is we already huge numbers of BEML-built Tatras lying around...and after all is said & done. It's a very good truck!

It's best we make use of as many Tatras as we have, as long as they can serve. Mating the same launcher to a new truck just because it has the "Indian" tag on it would be a pretty foolish idea, both time & money-wise.

However, the Future 300mm MBRL that's in development can be mounted on a Tata/ASL truck, straight from the beginning.

I think you refer to TALIN or Tactical Advanced Land Inertial Navigator, this is not GPS tech rather advanced INS. This tech will be deploy on ground vehicles such as tanks, APCs to have accurate navigation when GPS is depleted heavily. It is possible to deploy it on artillery guns for precise targeting but so far no indication that this has been done for Pinaka or any other artillery.

drdo has specifically developed a gps wraparound microstrip antenna for pinaka mk2 rockets (60-65 km) .it is coupled to INS i think.

for under development pinaka mk3 (100-120km) alpha design technologies and MBDA co-developed terminal guidance kit will be used most probably
