HALCON to export sheep, goat after Ramzan
    Tushar Pawar
NASHIK: HALCON, a joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Container Corporation of India (Concor) will start export of sheep and goats by air to Sharjah within a week after the holy month of Ramzan ends from Ozar's Inland Container Depot - 20 km from Nashik city.

Earlier, HALCON had plans to start non-scheduled cargo flights this month itself, but it was deferred due to drop in demands for goats and sheep due to Ramzan.

Last year too, over 12,000 goats and sheep were exported to Sharjah from Nashik's air cargo complex through eight flights in July and August. A Nashik-based logistic firm had hired IL-76 aircrafts and started non-scheduled operations.

HALCON has set up an inland container depot (ICD) adjacent to the HAL airport at Ozar at a cost of Rs 70 crore. It also houses air cargo complex, which is located adjacent to the runway of the airport.

Speaking to TOI, an official from HALCON said, "Last year, we started export of sheep and goats from July to September through a non-scheduled cargo. This year also we would undertake non-scheduled operations. Earlier, we had plans to start from the month of June, but we could not do it due to Ramzan."

He added that the transportation of goats and sheep will kick off within a week after the completion of Ramzan. "We are in talks with the private logistic firm for the purpose," the official said.

The facility at Ozar airport consists of an air cargo complex, warehousing, integrated packing center for perishables, cold storage, screening, comprehensive ground handling services for airlines, CCTV surveillance, bar-coding, labeling and customs' linkage.

Nice to know HAL is doing something apart from failing at military aerospace projects.

HAL is not bound for Defense Production only.
They are free to earn more for them.

It dilutes the purpose of a public sector company, who happens to be the only integrator of jets in India.

We laugh at the pak army doing real estate and cement businesses. Its the same thing for HAL. Now that it is small compared to its main purpose, you don't mind much. But imagine, what if it one day grows to 90% profit of what HAL does. Do you think its focus on the aeronautics side will be acceptable?

If its a private concern, they can do whatever. Its a public one, effectively similar to playing stocks as a side job with your boss´s money.

Yes, that is true; but cash influx would also allow them to improve their core business. From a company's perspective, diversification is not bad.

Though exporting goats is something which a public sector company should not undertake at all, except in case where it is a cover to export or import weapons and/or spares secretly.

HAL has realised it cannot achieve its primary purpose of existence.

Cattle export is the new thing.

Now they will focus on light cattle, medium cattle, heavy cattle.

Cattle with multi purposes such as multirole cattle.

They will have several variants of cattle the first type, second type (Mk1,Mk2)

Will be exported to friendly countries.

    Kudos to HAL.
