As worshippers arrived Sunday morning at a Hindu temple in Bothell, Washington state, they were welcomed by a graffiti on the wall. It said “Get out”, with a Swastika sign.

Just a few blocks from the temple was another graffiti — this one on a school wall. And it said, “Muslims Get Out.” It was accompanied by the same Swastika sign.

The neighbourhood was both shocked and disgusted by what many residents told local news outfits was a clear attempt to divide the community along religious lines.

    Local police police are investigating.

The Swastika is an auspicious sign in Hinduism; it also associated with Nazis in the West, and their sympathisers including white supremacists in the US.

Though the Jewish community remains the target of most religion-related hate crimes in the US, incidents against Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims have been rising in recent years.

Three Muslims students were killed last week in North Carolina by a man. The police maintain it was over a parking dispute but the FBI is looking into the possibility of it being a hate-crime.

A mosque in Houston, Texas, was destroyed in a fire last week, on February 13, that was described by the local police as a “purposeful act”. There were no reports of arrests.

A string of hateful graffiti were seen last year in a Virginia state neighbourhood that simply said “No Hindus”. Nobody has been caught yet, despite the announcement of a reward.

“Houses of worship are places where people should be able to be safe, at peace, and inspired to serve others,” said Padma Kuppa, of the Hindu American Foundation.

“Instead, the vandalism of the Hindu temple in Seattle and the arson of a mosque in Houston this past weekend incite fear and result in distrust among communities.”

An Islamic school was vandalised in Rhode Islands Saturday night, with graffiti that said “… Now this is hate crime”. The FBI has opened an investigation into it.

Well hate crimes are on rise. Issue is when people try to follow their religious acts openly they tend to disturb the existing community harmony.

Well, assuming they did know the difference between Hindus and Muslims, then the possible rationale is to say "you're all the same to us", which would make the attack decidedly racial more than religious. There are mosques in the US but you don't see anyone writing "get out hindus" on mosques, because Hindus aren't associated with destructive behavior and Hinduism may not be fully understood, but isn't popularly associated with being as incompatible with modernity as Islam from the perspective of typical westerner.

It's important to acknowledge and examine the ideas behind hate speech the same as any idea; not to justify it but because understanding it is essential to anticipating or resolving these feelings.
That being said, Indians would be better off remaining weary but to avoid investing in these incidents greater attention, or reading into them unwarranted significance, than they deserve in life. Many minorities allow themselves to be consumed by failure to be accepted into the mainstream by a subset of the host population, and I can appreciate why they feel this way, but never the successful minorities.
The Hindu diaspora have a very respectable reputation and we should not allow these incidents to change us in any fundamental way. The answer is more education and improved law enforcement, perhaps in extreme circumstances investing in developing a greater capacity for self-defense.

There still lies the issue of other nationals being integrated into the US as their citizens and migratory are not properly managed. Anyways it is bound to happen as other migrators or their community try to change or inflict the change in harmony of that community then these kind of issues keep poping up. LAW enforcements has to take serious steps and make a stand where they want to draw lines. These crimes are not serious enough compared to early days of 911, but has the potential to grow and become deadly in future for the society.

Remember that after the 9/11 2001 attack, some American had the bright idea of avenging his country by murdering some Sikhs. Because turban=Muslim=monster. Not that it matters, the crime isn't made worse by the criminals being wrong about their targets.

Do not expect bigots to be anything else but stupid and ignorant. Stupidity and ignorance are requirements for bigotry.
