Which India never was, nor is.

Relations between two countries are improved by a common religion, they depend upon National interests.

Nehru the fool once blurted out : I don't think Nepal like a foreign country!! Of course, Nepal becvame suspicious thinking India had territorial designs. Things were not helped by Sikkim's accession. That made even Bhutan suspipicious and insular. And note it that Bhutan does not give a rat's azz to democracy and secularism.

Rajiv G did not help matters, rather worsened them. He insisted on a single treaty of trade and transit. Trade of a country depends upon times and its national needs, which change. But Transit for a locked coiuntry is a Permanent issue.

Where does Pakistan stand? Neck deep in a cess pool of its own making.

    1. This is not an advisory forum but a forum for academic discussion where all discussants, except the office holders, are equal irrespective of the flag/avatar displayed. And in your over-enthusiasm why are you lecturing me about what Pakistanis feel or do not feel? Ask them.

    2. Secularism is a political concept born in Europe in the 19th century. Nobody in Europe ever adopted this, but the idea somehow fascinated Nehru. However, India itself was unsure in the beginning and slow to adopt it. Till 26 Jan 1950 when the Indian constitution was adopted Act of 1935 was the law. Secularism was inserted as a basic principle as late as 1976 by the 42nd amendment by Indira's govt. Indira lost the election next year.

    3. Our tryst with secularism is older. We put it in as a basic principle in our constitution, 1971 ratified next year. However, "secularism" has given us a lot of headache. All SA people are highly spiritual. We too are. The tendency of secularism moving towards atheism creates problems. We have lived with secularism as a basic principle for the first couple of years, then it got scrapped, and again it was put back. These political stunts made no difference whatsoever to the population - particularly the minorities.

    4. Yes, I feel it is natural that a state with a Hindu majority population should become a Hindu state. It has nothing to do with the late lamented two-nation theory or what Pakistan feels. This is a purely Indian issue of today involving the Indians only.

Realtions with Nepal worsened only after the Maoists came and they are anti-HIndu. So you are wrong here.

Pakistan was created in the name of Islam which cannot co-exist with other religions while India would have been created in the name of Hinduism. I don't need to say how co-existence with others is ingrained in the very spirit of Hinduism.Should I?

Islam says it is the ONLY true path thereby decimating any chances of co-existence while Hinduism says it is just ONE of the true paths thereby exhibiting secularism in its most egalitarian format.

1.The key problem in SA has been the sad fact that we know so little about our neighbor. Islam and the Muslim society accepts all other religions at all level. A Muslim can eat in a non-Muslim's house, make friends, serve under him, employ him and eat and work with him. Islam is a faith preaching love, peace brotherhood, equality, tolerance of others' faith and custom. And we in fact did co-exist marvelously till the Western Christian Civilization arrived with their agenda.

    2. It should be appreciated that if Islam was to be spread by the sword then the entire subcontinent would have been green centuries back. Muslims did not interfere in the local observation of any religious or cultural customs. For instance, Hindus continued to observe their family laws including laws of inheritance. Even the custom of Johar/Satti was not banned. Hindu widows continued to remain so, and often were dumped in Kashi ashrams. Muslims never interfered in curbing these practices and customs leaving it to the people concerned to sort out.

It only tells about ignorance. On what basis you say that a Hindu majority population should be a Hindu State. what about the rights of other people. Are they not having any say in a country. Is it not necessary to protect the rights and thoughts of minority to be protected. Since cause if a community is in majority then their only ideology should work or what. How it ill be Justified. Any person who is born on any land should be having the right to practice any religion he wants. What good we get by others to also follow forcefully what we believe. I feel pity on such thoughts. Look at neighboring country Pakistan. where this same concept was adopted and implemented. And eventually some stupid laws where brought like blasphemy etc. And in this name a lot of minority community people were troubled and ever persecuted or wrongly trapped . Even in Bangladesh the condition of minority Hindus and others is not safe. In many parts and cases either the minority people were troubled and even threatened to convert to Majority community religion. Havent you ever heard about the famous case of "Christian woman sentenced to death in Pakistan 'for blasphemyChristian woman sentenced to death in Pakistan 'for blasphemy' - Telegraph. Tell me who has given the right to kill other person in the name of one religion. If this is justified then the killing by US to some particular religion people in Afgan, iraq etc could also be justified. But I will say that it is also not justified and needs to be condemned.
Secularism is the key of success to any countries growth. Not Religion. If one has to follow religion let him follow in his house or to himself. And should not impose his ill knowledge to the entire nation. In any country first thing is its citizens and religion should have no place in constitution other than to one self.
India is a secular country and due to this India is developing and going on the path of becoming a super power. There was a time when people were so clinged to ones religion but gradually things are changing and people are realizing that first Nation then religion. And soon there will be a day when one will be thinking above ones own belief and will be working wholly for the nation. Thatis what is required than Condemning and making fun of Secularism. Due to secularism many have gone to US European countries and are living and practicing their religion peacefully. Even are having their Religious worship places. Why in Gulf countries one could not practice their religion freely. Even in SA could not carry other religion holy text too. Could not construct ones worship places. India is great nation with Great Values and respect for each belief. And Hence it could not be Sided with one particular religion.:big_boss:

A Hindu Rastra does not mean other communities will loose their rights of worship or way of living. That has been well explained by the promoters. And let us not move into what is happening in Pakistan. They have partly sharia law where blasphemy is punishable by death. That is their law. Why should you object? When you have a Hindu state you will have laws partial to Hinduism. That is obvious.

Let me clear this,India has never been a Hindu Rashtra. It's a stupid Hindu Right Wing ideology. In a country like India it will never work,Hinduism is practiced differently every where. It does not have laws or mandates like Sharia. You can worship the God any way you want, because God is every where.Whole notion of Hindu rashtra is to promote communalism and to create Hindu vote banks.

India was never one...it was always a landmass comprising a bundle of personal fifidoms of some I please myself and everyone else should please me ...or else off with your head kind of Kings...nawabs...and what not.....

Out of academic interest can I ask you to open a thread explaining the history, philosophy, ideology, goals and geographic parameters of Akhand Bharat. We here this often but an introspection will be interesting.

Well this is not a rocket science....Akhand Bharat means Undivided India.....and the definition...and the very idea of Akhand Bharat has been used by different people in different times to suit their ideology...

Before Moughals conquered India ...Akhand Bharat meant entire landmass of India sub continent should be governed by a single king.....something that Ashoka...Vikramadity and similar kings kind of achieved....again Akbar used this same concept to bring entire India subcontinent under his rule...albite with a different Name(Hindustan).....and Now we have people defining Akhand Bharat...as the entity of India that was handed over to Indian political class....at the time of independence...and built into Indian constitution.

So there you have it...Akhand Bharat Explained .....

    1. Justice has not been done to this vast and interesting subject. Not Akbar but Aurnagjeb had a larger empire. But he had committed a mistake by aiming to establish a Dar ul Islam - and the Mughals paid for this mistake. Akbar couldn't even bring Bengal under his sway. We mauled his brother-in-law Man Singh into defeat, and he had to leave with a ragtag few left of his army.

    2. Does the concept of Akhand Bharat not go beyond the traditional boundaries of SA? Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, BD, Burma - and right up to Bali, are they included in the East? In the West does this extend beyond R Oxus right up to the Caucasus?

    3. Does it have an ideology or basic principles? Is Hindutva or Hindu Rastra connected to this idea at all?

    4. Was there really ever an Akhand Bharat? Did Ashoka or Vikramaditya rule over the South also? We know we were never part of the Mughals till Aurangjeb.

Akhand Bharat is a good as a fact as History.

For now we can take it as a historical bindings in between our nations, to build better cooperation and understandings between our nations, that's how we can fulfill our current concept of Akhand Bharat. But I am afraid Pakistan will prefer to alienate itself from such confidence building measures, specially the birdbrain class.
