HK scientists prove time travel impossible - People's Daily Online July 27, 2011

Hong Kong scientists announced that they had determined the idea of time travel is impossible by proving nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.

The finding is contained in a study done by a research team from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The study was published Monday in a scientific journal "Physical Review Letters" in the United States.

"The study, which showed that single photons also obey the speed limit c, confirms Einstein's causality, that is, an effect cannot occur before its cause," the university said on its website.

"By showing that single photons cannot travel faster than the speed of light, our results bring a closure to the debate on the true speed of information carried by a single photon." said Professor Du Shengwang, who led the study.

The possibility of time travel was raised 10 years ago when scientists discovered the optical pulses in some specific medium might propagate information in a faster-than-light speed.

"Our findings will also likely have potential applications by giving scientists a better picture on the transmission of quantum information." Du said.

There are places on this universe where you can travel faster than light, he's missing some points from the quantum physics in event horizon.

Time Dilation is possible but not time travel. However Ronald Mallet the author of the famous time-travel book disagrees, if you can sufficiently explain all the paradoxes rather than looking at quantum physics then that would be great.

I don't agree with the study. He is correct that a photon can not exceed the cosmic limit of light speed. But that doesn't suggest that time travel is not possible.

Another thing, there are no places in the universe where the anything can travel faster than light. The event horizon is where absolutely nothing can escape the black hole. This is where the gravity of the black hole overpowers everything else.

But even in the black hole, nothing travels faster than light.

Time travel is possible, but only into the future. Traveling into the past is not possible. This is the conclusion of years of my research. I've worked on it for 7 years.

You are talking about time dilation by using lorentz transformation, you know the star wars formula thought in schools t1=t/root l-v1/v2 or something like that :drag:

I don' think that these guys are aware of one of the 'cosmic top secret' black projects in the U.S called 'Project Looking Glass' that deals with the physics of seeing the effects of an artificially-produced gravity wave on time. This -- as with the other projects -- all embraced gravity and the control of it, and therefore the control of Space/Time as the key element.

This has nothing to do with photons which travel at a speed of 'C' but the interaction of gravity and space-time. Electromagnetism is used to manipulate and control the gravity-like strong nuclear force (produced by a reactor). The strong nuclear force is then used to produce large-scale dimension-distorting wave effects. These large-scale dimension-distorting wave effects are then used to send something (e.g., a stream of electrons sequenced like binary computer code) a considerable distance through time as in Project Looking Glass.

    Cheers!

We, even not know exactly what is event horizon- actually when a object goes inside the event horizon, and seeing this object from far away it look like that it is stopped inside the event horizon but it not, as at that time the time is going very slowly for that object. But actually it moving to that.

And there is lots of thing in the universe that we not know about that ,like graviton, dark matter ( also known as glue of galaxy), dark energy, higgs boson etc. And remember after the big bang the galaxy expands faster than light- so till now this is a suspense that we can travel faster than light or not.

And who knows that the black hole other opening opens in a white hole in different universe? So, till now we can't say anyting.

Man, the time travel also depends on light. Yeah, you are right about the genral theory of relativity that gravity is like the waves in space-time like the waves in water. And distorting these dimesnsion we can slow the time. But, take a look about the light on time travel.

Take a situation that you are going to kill a person faster than C. The other person can't see you and die as you are moving faster than light. This can create paradox in universe and whole nature of physics are destoyed. This can create a cosmic disaster.

one show on discovery says that alien space ships may be are capable of absorbing time and space from front and spreading ( releasing )them from behind.

these way they can travel faster than light.

The fact is the state of absolute randomness as described in the quantum field theory is not possible. If you divide time as a sequence of events then you come up with a steady state universe. For example: if a stone falls and you ask why that event happened then you are taking for granted that everything must have a reason and to that effect you will eventually conclude the preceding sequence such as bird or wind as the reason for stone fall so you will build a chain of events.

Yes, but you are taking light (photons) as a distinct entity. This would need to be 'piggy backed' on dimension-distorting wave effects produced by gravitational waves. You may have probably heard of Quantum Gravitational Antennas for instantaneous communications across the Universe! Which means 'C' is not a constraint.

QGAs (Quantum Gravity Antennas) can be used for near instantaneous interstellar communications by Virtual Gravitational Radiation. The GCC (Gravity Control Cell) antenna radiates graviphotons and gravitational waves simultaneously. Thus it is not only a gravitational antenna, but a Quantum gravitational antenna because it can also emit and detect gravitational Virtual quanta (graviphotons) which in turn can transmit information instantaneously from any distance in the universe without scattering.

I would suggest you read some of the peer reviewed articles on this subject available in the LANL (Los Alamos National Laboratory) archives to get an idea of where and how science has progressed.

    Cheers!
