That is also an exaggeration in another direction. You could not even be sure whether concept of Navy itself would be relevant in era of sub-orbital bombers and troop carriers. 40 Year is too much of being ahead. I do not think current USN would do anything ,except sink to bottom, in face of technological advancement in next 20 years. ASBMs, round the clock coverage, missiles with supercomputers on their chip, Hypersonic yer maneuverable cruise missiles, DEW, Rail guns, fast striking sub orbital vessels, and Space based weapons would make current model of navies nonviable.

USN is more powerful than any Navy in the world, not only India.
India has to catch up China first then we can think about to catch up USN. And it will take more 30 years to catch up USN.

Too much than we can afford but why would you want to be a competitor? We have totally different aims in terms of navy. They want to project power all around the world, we want to defend our country and the surrounding seas. We already have our hands full to keep up with China, which is the real problem, the US isn't anymore.

    Great post.

    But unnecessary.

I said as of Today, they are at least 40 years ahead of us. It is taking us 10 years to build our first AC. Not does not mean, we will be building the next faster. We are going for a completely new design.

The combined tonnage of US ships in middle east and Indian ocean is almost 1.5 Times of whole Indian Navy.

Should we be asking such silly questions ?

I concede that USN is far ahead of India. I took exception with 40 year specifically, because in that time period, I expect IN to become peer navy of USN, even though slightly weaker than USN. In 40 years, massive aircraft carriers and carrier borne fighters ,the backbone of USN, could be expected to become useless, and concepts that would determine strength of a Navy have not been devised yet. In my opinion, navy of that time would actually become smaller as in destroyer class ships to patrol provided with air cover from shore based sub-orbital air/space ships capable of crossing whole ocean in minutes. The current epoch of technology could be expected to last for 20-25 years, and that is the advantage that USN has over IN. After that, it would depend on how much we have invested in emerging technologies.

We lost this era of tech as west had two generation worth of lead on us as when these techs were coming online, we were more concerned about feeding our population during famines; but west's advantage in emerging tech is not that great as it is in conventional tech because even developing countries are investing in them and have some base. There is a reason why western countries react so negatively to developing countries having space tech and use their lackies/pressure groups (like Jean Dreze and Harsh mander, the famed members of infamous NAC) to suppress it is because next-gen military would be based on it.

    Dude. English.

As of now, India is 40 years behind the USN. Not what is going to HAPPEN in 40 years.

well lets put it this way The USN was probably bigger than the next 5 or 6 or may be 10 navies combined and in terms of technology we are not even remotely close. The USN is truly a global force.
