    2nd STRIKE

In nuclear strategy, second strike capability is a country's assured ability to respond to a nuclear attack with powerful nuclear retaliation against the attacker. To have such an ability (and to convince the opponent of its viability) is considered vital in nuclear deterrence, as otherwise the other side might be tempted to try to win a nuclear war in one massive first strike against the opponent's own nuclear forces.

    Theory

The possession of second strike capabilities counters a first strike nuclear threat and can support a no first use nuclear strategy. Reciprocal second strike capabilities usually cause a mutual assured destruction defence strategy, though one side may have a lower level minimal deterrence response. An example of how second strike capability can be strengthened is the implementation of fail-deadly mechanisms. "When you talk of second strike capability, it means that when the mobile moves on surface whether on rail or on road, it will easily be detected by either intelligence or from the satellite imaging, but in this case, if you keep it either underwater or underground, certainly you won't be able to detect it. It is very difficult to detect."

Aircraft Carriers are no longer going to be a part of second-strike...with the Chinese developing the Anti-Ship BM,they can be taken out in the first strike...

I think you should add 42 upgraded Su 30 MKI.They r still on paper but just for information you can post it.
After all, three of the above given ACs r still not commissioned so we have to wait.
After 5-7 years we will have a good capability of second strike.

I suppose this is a general thread, not India vs. Pakistan thread...

We may develop the capability...say in 5 years.

No, Aircraft carrier will work as 2nd strike.

Anti-Ship Missile won't work effectively against ACC. Reason - ACC is very huge with strong metals. Also, Aircraft carrier never moves alone. There is Destroyer, Frigate, corvette with ACC all the time. Also, There are multiple Radar to detect, SAM to defend and Offensive missiles to attack. ACC is not fixed at any place. In case of threat, The Entire fleet can move 10KM in any direction in no time. Also, All Fighter Jets move in Sky within few minutes.

An anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) is a military quasiballistic missile, of medium or intermediate range, designed to hit a warship at sea. Because of speeds typically reaching Mach 10 there are currently no ship-board defense mechanisms that could counter an ASBM in the terminal phase.

ASBM are equipped with a conventional warhead large enough, together with the kinetic energy, that a single hit has the potential to cripple or outright destroy a supercarrier, but unlike nuclear weapons have to hit the target precisely to be effective. Thus, and unlike a typical ballistic missile, which follows a sub-orbital ballistic flightpath after the relatively brief initial powered phase of flight, an ASBM would require a precise and high-performance terminal guidance system.

    Example: DF-21D ASBM

Land based Aircraft fighter may or may not work as 2nd Strike.

The Concept of 2nd Strike comes from "Nothing Left". 2nd Strike is Missiles underwater or underground, So that no country can detect it. If Detected, There is always chance of attack.

AC Carrier is 2nd Strike due to Displacement. It can change the location any time within few seconds. Also, There is Strong Shield of Destroyers, Frigates with 100's of SAM and Offensive Missile.

Very few countries have 2nd Strike Capability. Pakistan don't have 2nd Strike Capability as of now and doesn't look like possible in next few years.

China can't use Ani-Ship BM against our Aircraft Carrier.

Reason - Distance. How China will reach Indian Ocean ? malacca strait. We have Natural Aircraft carrier there i.e. Andaman Nicobar Island. A very important strategic asset.
