As we give refurbished mi-35 to Afghanistan and brand new Dhruv to Nepal as gift or donation, doesn't mean that they begged us for that.

This donation might be for convincing India for a bigger order of RAFALEs.

It has been clarified that these Jags are not going to be operationalised into the IAF, they will never fly.

I'm sure India will get to pay for the transport. These birds can't fly by themselves anymore.

Doesn't make sense to refurb them- they have already reached the end of their service lives, India itself is standing down most of its Jag fleet.

Until a MoD source comes along i won't go with what Shiv is saying. He is still just a journo.

And India is not standing down any part of her Jag fleet. Some are new ( just a decade old ) and others are undergoing massive upgrades with newer engines, radars, AAM's etc.

All this is not done to retire them.

Jaguar will be in IAF till 2040. You can save this post because i know i am right like i have always been.

True true, but Shiv was in France and I would assume he heard this from some credible people.
Yes but most are being phased out, only around 60 of the newest airframes will be upgraded to the DARIN III with the rest being stood down gradually over the next 7 years, the DARIN III will continue on till around 2032-5.

+ the re-engine to the F125N doesn't seem like it is on the cards anymore which seems to suggest the IAF has given up?

IAF inducted a single squadron after Kargil not 60 airframes.

Most Jaguars will be upgraded to DARIN III standard.

    See this

    http://idrw.org/iafs-jaguars-set-to-roar-again/

280 Honeywell engines being imported for 123 Jaguars not 60.

So IAF will keep 123 Jaguars until 2040 at the very least as there is no credible replacement/supplement.

Rafale has better things to do in IAF.
    F-16/Gripen are nowhere in sight.

More Jaguars being bought to replace Mig-27 which is in terrible condition.

Tejas has more of a presence on www.indiandefence.com than indianairforce.nic.in

Honestly it costs 0 to France to give them for free. It could even beneficial. I Just se it as a deal sweetener. M2k is another issue as Stiller operational.
