These kind of laws might look silly, but have the biggest impact in the social issues of India.

Wedding food isn't something that comes cheap, especially for those below average income.

    good move!

People spend 300 crores in a wedding, when 60% of our population is living at Rs 20/- a day!

    Its a crime!

I have decided, I'll marry the girl, not her money!

Such extravagance looks a lot worse than it actually is. What does one mean when one says a huge amount of money is being spent on the wedding? It is actually money being spent on a lot of things thereby actually helping the economy. What use is the money if it remains in the houses, bank a/c's, lockers of these people? It helps that they are extravagant since they directly & indirectly help many more people earn money. I know when you think about it, one feels terribly disgusted but such is life.

    1. Money will be in circulation but not in swiss bank, as it's being spent.

    2. Employment for daily labour.

    3. Marriage is one of those events, where one would want to outdo the other. Even if he/she might have to borrow money or take loan.

Only thing we need to take care is not to throw the food, but to give it away to NGOs/Orphanages/Old age homes.

So, now you can expect cops to be present at every wedding for 2-3 days. 20-30 cops in each pandal keeping a hawk's eye lest some food should be wasted!!

Every body does not spend 300 crore on a wedding. But of course, the food is not cheap in weddings. BUT, the host PAYS, that too willingly. Why should anyone one complain?

Law seems to be good but it is practically not possible to implement it.

    Know what?

In Tennessee, it is against the law to drive a car while sleeping.

Dumb and extremely stupid move by the government. There are usually MILLIONS of tons of foodgrains rotting in FCI godowns every year which they try not introducing in the larger market. Instead of reforming that these clowns go after little stuff to hoodwink people.

Agree, what good is a law if you can't enforce it.

It will be used by local cops to extract more $ from ordinary people. As if arranging marriage wasn't already a big enough hassle now we have to worry about another thing.

The implementation of this law is near impossible.
Govt. can't track the food wasted in each and every wedding.

I think Pakistan already implemented similar law in their country.
I think,I have read this once in newspaper.
