NEW DELHI: India’s foreign minister on Tuesday defended the vast US surveillance programme of phone logs and Internet data revealed by intelligence leaker Edward Snowden.

“Some of the information they got out of their scrutiny, they were able to use it to prevent serious terrorist attacks in several countries,†Salman Khurshid told reporters in Brunei in a broadcast interview.

“This is not scrutiny and access to actual messages. It is only computer analysis of patterns of calls and emails that are being sent… it is not actually snooping on the content of anyone’s messages or conversations,†he added.

The comments by Khurshid, who met US Secretary of State John Kerry in New Delhi last month, contrast with India’s initial reaction when a foreign ministry spokesman warned that any privacy violation would be “unacceptableâ€.

He is attending an Asian security forum in Brunei, along with Kerry and regional foreign ministers.

Based on documents provided by Snowden, The Guardian newspaper reported at the weekend that US intelligence services were also spying on 38 embassies and diplomatic missions of its allies including India.

Snowden, whose US passport has been cancelled, remains holed up in Moscow airport where he has sought asylum from 21 countries.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the NSA used all the info it had on Gilani/Headley (oh, sorry, I forgot U.S. law bars the NSA from spying on American citizens) or his friends to actually identify who Major Iqbal is?

American people suffer from constant paranoid and their govt and the media keeps doing it because they are profiting and are able to control the people in U.S. Anotherwise there is no real good reason surveillance not much comes out of it

As for information about attacks like 9/11 and 26/11 these are planned attacks by govt not ordinary people but like always Americans are dumb idiots they don't understand simplest things in the world because their brain does not work because they have shit in their pants.

All the so called Terror outfits are linked to one govt or another and what they don't want to tell you they won't tell you or give you no matter what. you will never get the information unless they want you to have except from undercover agents

be it Headley or LET commanders because they are working for govt and with govt they are not working alone by themselves.

U.S. used to be country of Indpendence and where individual rights were respected now it is country where everybody suffers from constant fear

I think american should read again what was written on the stand of lady liberty... they need to remind what they were and what they had become

    The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame,
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Whatever the benefits of snooping in stoping the terrorists, it is illegal to snoop around anyone's privacy. What stop them from using the acquired info against the individual for any number of reasons.

Illuminati ruling this world through U.S. only two countries left russia and brazil. india is done.
Destruction of India starts from here on out
Hope russia gets this world out of this mess but this is pretty much over. They are using U.S. perfectly. Fear/cowardice has made Americans into dumb idiots.

I never thought this would come so easily and so fast but it has. Its a shame.

The thought of "ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT" has been achieved by Illumanati one last thing they needed.

Now we are puppets in the hands of 6-7 super rich families Congrats Idiots because of your fear and stupidity everybody is screwed

I have no problem with the USA monitoring international calls to prevent terrorist attacks.
