whether we have capability and capacity? Certainly, we have it. But, we are not fools to spend when our policy is Credible Minimum Deterrence. we would have increased the number due to SLBM. My guess 300 max

 

No one has any clue about the number of war heads india has..... Most of the estiamte based on the weapon grade uranium we can produce from our reactors......

Have been hearing this number for more than 5 years...... Either India and Pak stopped producing war heads or both managed to keep their nukes away from relevant foreign agencies...

In 1994, we had approximately 400+ stockpile.

Norway had (@Fox you can check the veracity of this from your sources at your end, Norway had taken India to ICJ over it, if I recall correctly) accused India of 'complicity' (read directly hijacking) in disappearance of a vessel with consignment of D2O in 1983/1984 in High Seas, which, as per them, was used in Trombay (as India was cut off post 1974 Test)

So, we have been consistent on this front, by hook or by crook.

@Levina the mating of warhead is a very coordinated process (multiple points are activated with obligatory system redundancies for eventual mating do the same in a series of random yet coordinated actions at multiple points separated in time and space) . So it is absolutely impossible to reach a figure by calculating number of missiles or rockets.

This ... the Norwegian vessel issue, came in newspaper about a decade back (maybe 13 or 14 years back 2002 or so? Don't recall the year now). Tried to google ... found nothing in archives. If I come across something someday, will put it on.

India's nuclear weapons and related R&D is very opaque in nature .According to the Americans themselves it is more opaque than China.
So what we can assume in here is that these reports are perhaps for spoiler works in NSG .

It is an estimation based on our present capability as also number of centrifuges we are running.

It is an estimation. Generally, you have a fair idea about the industrial capability of a nation.

If I may, if you look at the Indian posturing over Chemical Weapons, we are a signatory of CWC or Chemical Warfare Convention, which means we have pledged no stockpiling or weaponising of chemicals.

But if you actually see the Indian Chemical Industry and Pahrmaceutical base, you can know that we can weaponise massively in 24 to 48 hours, with enough to literally flood our neighbour in what our internet fanboys call the 'saturation attack'.

The so called nuclear city, is a massive site. And it is not the only one of it's kind.

If you roam around certain states of India ... you will actually be amazed at things that exist in middle of no where.

 

It is not weapons.

It is capability to weaponise ... there is a difference between the two

Japanese have a greater stockpile. Theirs could beat the crap out of Chinese capabilities.
That is a different issue that it is sent off to US as per agreeement. But any day of the week, Japan can massively weaponise without breaking a sweat.

 

So you mean we have other nuke sites ?
There is no wonder in our shortage of fund in developing conventional weapons.

 

It doesn't matter how many nuclear warheads we have one thing is for sure We are moving from a detterant where warheads and missiles were separate and were to be mated seeing threat scenario to hair trigger detterant with SLBM K-4 K-5, and canisterized Agni 5 &6 to Brahmos.
