I understand that. in my books, talks like:
    1) Bhutan should join Indian Union because they are out protectorate
    2) saving "bhutan's ass" from China

are treating them in a disparaging attitude.

If "Bhutan's ass" offend you, I withdraw that statement and replace it by, "save Bhutan as a country from the clutches of the Chinese".

thank you for the gesture. I am pretty sure anyone from Bhutan would prefer the latter words than being said "we saved your ass". but we are all on the same page.

btw, during the 1970's (after defeating Pakistan in the 71 war), Bhutan became more "assertive" and independent in its foreign policy - probably fearing that the new found assertive India might engulf Bhutan.
but the last 20 years (2007 treaty with india) have been much better - more because of assertive Chinese. Thankfully, Modi made his first foreign trip to Bhutan and gave it the respect it deserved - of a country that has been friendly and warm towards India and Indians.

It's for this reason only that China is in a dicey position. They must understand that India simply won't let China poke their nose in Bhutan.
