absolutely, these OFB made rounds will make guns made of unobtainium useless  poor Danush guns became victim of the OFB's ineptness,

Both sides need to explain them selves a little better.
If OFB indeed is so confident, share it's FMEA and DPPM numbers.
Now that said, ammunition failure will happen, top dollar match grade ammo in rifles too fail, the pertinent question for army is what is the failure rate acceptable to the army, are there suppliers who would take a penalty and liability of equipment damage if they fail to meet the needed reliability of ammunition.

Given OFB's track record of zero innovation and shitty products, and Army's record of massive corruption in acquisitions, both parties do not have legs to stand on.

I wonder wether the imported shells blow up in the barrel, there is quality issues in OFB now I hear the OFB employees will go on strike for taking strict measures, all these years their ineptness was not seen, lol.

    Current artillery procurement plans :

    Towed Howitzers
    • 1850 -- ATAGS -- 155mm, 52-cal ~ DRDO, Kalyani Group/Tata
    • 414 -- Dhanush 45 -- 155mm, 45-cal ~ OFB
    • 645 -- M777 -- 155mm, 39-cal ~ BAE
    Total 2909 Towed Howitzers

    Self-Propelled Howitzers

    • 250 -- K9 Vajra -- 155mm, 52-cal ~ Hanwha-Techwin, L&T
    • 814 -- Caesar (undecided) -- 155mm, 52-cal ~ Nexter, L&T, Ashok Leyland
    Total 1064 SPHs

    Rocket Artillery

    • ??? -- Pinaka-III -- 300mm ~ DRDO
    • 62 -- BM30 Smerch -- 300mm ~ some Ruskie company I'm too lazy to look up
    • 120 -- Pinaka Mk.1/2/2ER -- 214mm ~ DRDO, L&T
    Total 182+ Rocket Arty

That adds up to a known number of 4155+ major arty pieces currently envisaged for procurement/already procured. Haven't included the smaller 105mm field guns, upgrades to the M46 and all that....

Am I missing something? Will we be looking for a replacement of the IFGs anytime soon? How about a 4x4 mounted solution like that Kalyani Garuda 105 offer?

nothing's going to happen it seems our artillery commanders r clueless what to choose or what to do, as they keep on harping on some futuristic artillery, they will get nothing & what's this up gunning Indian field gun, our OFB is so inept we r not going to see them in our lifetime, only hope is our private companies make a good product & win the trials & the contract, nowadays every manufacturer if afraid of Indian trials, lol.

Among all those guns mentioned by me above, the only one who's as yet undecided is the Mounted Gun System (MGS) requirement (wheeled SPH).

Rest all are deal-done. M777? Ordered. K9? Ordered. ATAGS & Dhanush? Former is proceeding at a brisk pace of testing while latter is entering production.

Smerch is already operational for decades, Pinaka production is ongoing (it's also battle-proven in Kargil) with new rocket versions (with guidance system) emerging, each with increasing range. 300mm indigenous MBRL has only recently been announced.

We already successfully up-gunned the M46 so doing something similar on IFG is not something inconceivable.

I don't think there will be more M777 orders. On MGS, OFB and BAE are partnering to make a worthy competition to Caesar.
