Surely what it is being devloped for, even in 12x12 configuration this vehicle would have many roles within the Indian mil (first and foremost as a TEL for Bhramos).

By 2020-23, the Indian mil won't need to buy ANY vehicle from abroad IMHO, my only hope is that the private sector start working closer with the DRDO as at the top end the private players don't seem to be all that interested in carrying out their own R&D.

Are those TATA trucks inducted by IA?

IA mostly inducts TATRA trucks for important purposes.

TATA quality is poor as far as large transport vehicles are involved. Being from Delhi I see their green and red buses breaking down in large numbers on a daily basis

To be honest, I have no idea about 12x12 of TATA.

Apart from TATRA, IA has MAN , DAF , Mercedes Benz,Scania etc too for very heavy duty specialised roles.

The 12x12 are still under development, the largest order for trucks the IA has placed in recent times (>1200 units) was awarded to TATA (went up against others including TATRA) for 6x6 higly mobile logistics vehicles:

AFAIK the IA was impressed with it and are placing repeat orders for another 500 units* of it.

IA uses TATA trucks 6x6 in large numbers for troop transport and some material transport. So do paramilitaries like BSF and CRPF. Since decades. More than 20000 trucks I think in IA alone.

But the 12x12 IMO is a risk considering if a 12x12 breaks down in the Thar with a nuke tipped Shaurya/Agni that is going to be a FUBAR situation. That's the only possible risk with a TATA.

Having been stuck in many traffic jams solely due to these buses breaking down on flyovers, in peak heat, in rain I have such an opinion.

If a TATA 12x12 is inducted it will only be after it has met/surpassed the laid down requirements of the military, they won't simply be inducted because they are Indian otherwise imports (of TATRAs) will continue. The Indian mil has no issues with rejecting any product if it doesn't meet their requirments.

Again, the TATA 6x6 HMV was trailed against the TATRA (and others') offerings and came out on top and It is explictly replacing older TATRA 6x6s (adn 4x4s) in the IA.

The bus part of your post is anecdotal mate and there are numerous factors that may relate to that that have no relation to this topic. AFAIK it is well known that bus operators don't undertake much maintainence of their fleets, even their Volvos have some nasty incidents.

After 70 Years in Service, India Set to Shut Army Education Corps

India is likely to close an Army unit established in 1947 to provide basic education to troops. An 11-member committee has recommended the winding up the Army Education Corps (AEC) and deploy 5000 personnel to the war zone that will be advantageous to the forces. This personnel will be deployed along China and Pakistan border as the member of cyber agency and help in flying unmanned aerial vehicles in difficult Himalayan terrain for surveillance purposes.

"The AEC should be closed as a Corps over the next five years and its existing manpower should be re-oriented and re-skilled to form part of the cyber warriors, various electronic surveillance, and intelligence as well as electronic warfare unit or trained as Unmanned Aerial vehicle operators," the Committee said in its report to the government.

The Defense Ministry has approved most of the recommendations in March this year and now it seeks services chief approval to implement the recommendation from this year itself. "Presently, officers and JCOs of the Army Education Corps are not utilized optimally. The Corps was established at the time when troops were not literate. But, now most of the troops are well educated. Classes have been cut down drastically. Approximately 5000 personnel are engaged in the education corps and have not been fully explored & utilized," Major General Ravi Kumar Arora (retired), chief editor of Indian Military Review, said.

I doubt the possibility of equipping this with Agni (except may be A1) ....... If you compare this 12X12 looks shorter than than even the TATRA/TATA 12X12 ...... So Agni can be ruled out IMO .
