Firstly please cut the sir crap.

Secondly, BAT is not feared per se. The issue is that the price is always paid by the guy who was either absent minded during training or takes the training too lightly. And more than the casualty, a successful BAT action in an infantry unit's area of responsibility reflects poorly on the infantry unit for a very long time, the time period being at times dependent on a resounding success or successful 'revenge' counterattack with disproportionate casualties inflicted. It is the izzat component of what drives an Indian soldier which is at play here.

It is conducted by both sides and exacts equivalent price if not more. However, the premise that it is conducted exclusively by the SF is also incorrect.

The description is wrong - left are PLA troops in darker uniform. Right are Indian ITBP troops (light tan uniform). The guy who fell down is Indian.

It is basically meant to move armoured guns. It is a cabin for crew.

Indian Army orders Ashok Leyland FAT 6×6 – 2016 DefExpo (LIVE)

Ashok Leyland FAT 6×6 has been showcased at the ongoing Defence Expo in Goa – DefExpo. Indian Army has ordered 450 units of these Field Artillery Tractor (FAT) 6×6 vehicles along with other similar Super Stallion vehicles. The total order is worth INR 800 crore (including 825 units of Ambulance 4×4).

Purpose built for carrying out military operations, Ashok Leyland FAT 6×6 is powered by a diesel engine which generates maximum power of 345 hp. Mated to a manual transmission, which distributes power to all six of the specially made Pirelli tyres. With a payload capacity of 8 tonnes and GVW of 26.5 tonnes, it has a top speed of 90 kmph and a range of 800 km on one full tank of fuel.

Apart from carrying crew and ammunition to the remotest of location, it can also be used to carry howitzers and field funs of up to 155 mm. Ashok Leyland FAT 6×6 replaces the ageing Scania SBAT 6×6 artillery tractors which have been in service of Indian Army since 1986.

Key features of Ashok Leyland FAT 6×6 are – engine brake ensures safety of engine and higher braking efficiency, bead lock to prevent tyre from sliding off the rim in the event of tyre puncture, rear view camera, automated and centralized tyre inflation system (CTIS), emergency power steering, voice communication arrangement between crew and driver cabin, provisions inside the cab for tandem drive control, fire and smoke detection unit, swiveling / self-locking tow hook.

I have a wild theory - what if Iveco got worried that Super Stallion cabin looks awfully similar to their M250 and maybe legally sent notices regarding that?

Maybe then Ashok Leyland decided to oblige and change up the cabin? Unless of course if Leyland hadn't already sought Iveco help in designing the cabin in the first place.

That's what the rear cabin is for which both designs have, the front cabin is for the driver/commander only.

Hmm, interesting but if that was the case they wouldn't have supplied the FATs to the IA with the old (Ivecoesque) cabin surely?

Maybe the production for the IA order was already underway by the time Leyland changed the cabin?

There are 2 basic reason behind 2 cabs:
    1. Its the basic requiment that its Field artillery tractors should have individual cab for artillery crew.
    2. Its easier to change the configuration whenever required.

Yes but both AL FAT are identical except for the cabin design, from the cabin backwards they are the same truck 100%:

A lot of people are thinking that @Abingdonboy is talking about the crew compartment behind the driver - whereas he's talking about the driver's cabin itself. The new(er) FAT has a different grille, different windshield, different light rack and everything.
